Prior for Tejada? Please.
C\'mon guys, that\'s just terrible. I know that A Gonz sucks hard, but to contemplate trading Prior for only Tejada, that would be awful.
Luke, what moves do the Cubs need to make? The only Shortstop really available is Orlando Cabrera, who quite frankly isn\'t that much of an improvement over A Gonz. I must admit that I haven\'t been a big fan of A Gonz on the offensive side of things, but he does have a pretty good glove (though it seems to disappear in big situations), and that\'s all you can really ask of him.
If the Cubs need to do anything, it\'s to get some freaking bullpen help. For some reason, they keep deciding to option John Leicster back to Triple A, despite the fact that he\'s been the most consistent pitcher in the bullpen period. The one thing that\'s really hurting the bullpen is LaTroy pitching out of position. I admit, I just about wanted to rip his head off after giving up what Barrett, Grudzy, and Patterson fought back for in the Top of the 9th so quickly, but you have to remember that he\'s pitching out of his element. He\'s SO much more effective as a set-up man.
Until we get a Healthy Joe Borowski back, the Bullpen really won\'t be the same, so we really do need to make a bullpen deal.
As for the lineup itself, it\'s actually solid, but there are parts of it that are underperforming. I\'ll tell you right now, losing Aramis for those 6 games before and after the All-Star Break absolutley killed the Cubs. The offense was anemic, and his glove has actually been damn good at third base.
What it truly comes down to is doing the fundamentals better. Getting bunts down when you have to, turning double plays when you need to, and not giving the other team extra outs (*evil glare in the direction of Sammy Sosa*). You have to remember that, before about Mid-June, the Cubs had the best defense in the entire Majors. If that can come back, the Cubs\'ll be in good shape.
I personally hit a wall about a week ago (after the Cubs lost that heartwrenching 2 game series to the Cardinals at home), but it\'s time to move on from that.
You can say that the Cubs are underperforming, and to a point they are...but you have to remember that at one point this late in the season last year, they were 51-52 on the year. Then they traded for Kenny Lofton, Randall Simon, and Aramis Ramirez, and proceeded to take over the National League. This year, it\'s just a matter of getting fully healthy.
Now, if only we could produce some freaking runs that don\'t come by the Home Run...how about some god damn gappers and line drives. Jesus.
See Yuz.
