Finally tried to overclock my PC and I think I was pretty successful.  I have a P4 2.4B Asus P4PE MB and OC\'d it to 3Ghz by raising the FSB to 167Mhz (x4).  I ran SiSoft Sandra 10 times and 3dmark03 3 times and played some CoD and MoH SH with no problems.  Temps according to my Asus Probe never ran above 48 C on full load.  

I have heard these cpu\'s are really good for overclocking, but I am wondering if it is safe for the CPU?  I don\'t plan on keeping this CPU for 10 years so lifespan beyond another 2 years really isn\'t an issue.

Also any suggestions on what to do with my memory (2700) timings?  I believe they are default right now.

Mmm..I would suggest to start oc-ing slowly. Each time a little more. I got a P4 3,2 on P4C800E-deluxe mobo which has this
\'AI overclocking tool\' ; + 5%, + 10%, + 15% etc.

Mine won\'t go further than + 10%, but i think that\'s due my limited psu, the Antec truepower 380W which kind of restraints.
Then there\'s also my Corsair DDR500 ram which doesn\'t have real tight latency settings by spd. Anyway, I\'m happy enough at +10%
; 3519 Mhz.

That\'s sweet, you must have the magic 2.4b, mine only goes to about 2.88.  Download CPU-Z and see what revision you have.  If it says B0 anywhere like me then you got the crippled chip, but doesn\'t sound like you do.

I got a newer Asus mobo to get 8xAGP (replaced my P4PE) and everything runs a lot faster now.  I use the Smart AI OC\'ing utility to get a 20% increase.  It configures everything for you, like voltage settings and such.  I plan to get a 2.8C real soon, people have been getting 3.6mhz with no problem.

I have a 2.6c with  a P4C800E-Deluxe.  The AI Overclocking Tool Knotter is pretty sweet.  I have messed around with overclocking a little.  As soon as I get my new video card (6800 GT) I plan to overclock my CPU again.  Wonder how high I can get it?

ever unfortunately the P4 2.6C is the only one of the 800fsb Northwoods that don\'t oc as well.  You probably won\'t have as much succes as a 2.4C will.  If you can get 3.6 I\'ll eat my words, but this is based on things I\'ve read.

Anyone heard of Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome?  Some say it happens if you increase the vcore.  THX did you do a format and reinstall of windows when you replaced your mb?  Almost forgot, yes I have C1 stepping.  I backed it off to 2.97G at stock voltage.  So far no probs.

Giga funny you should ask that.  My friend and I both upgraded to the same motherboard.

I reformatted C: and installed XP from scratch.  Friend didn\'t.  He ran into a couple of problems but very minor.

Overall I\'m glad I reformatted and have a clean boot and registry but I\'m pretty sure I didn\'t need to.  The chipset drivers can easily be replaced on your next bootup.

THX what MB did you end up getting?  You know there is a way to make the P4PE an 800 FSB board, but I would need to get a new cpu anyway as mine is 533.  I really want the 8X AGP and SATA raid (my P4PE didn\'t come with it).

The Asus P4P800-SE with the i865PE chipset.  Not sure if it has raid on sata but if not i875 do.

I had it up to 3.2 something with no heat problems.  Everything ran very stable except Call of Duty locked up every once in awhile.  I down clocked it to 3.12 and everything runs ok except every once in awhile COD locks up.

Found the problem.  Heatsink on my video cards had some dust in it and it wasn\'t cooling it as effectively.  I\'m gonna try and see how high I can get it this afternoon.

I can almost definately say now that my Antec380W is holding me back from OC- ing more than 3,5 Ghz with also a  6800GT installed (which is OC\'d at 400/1100). The 12V rail only has the minimum 6800 required 18A.

But, tomorrow I will get a Tagan 480W with 28A on the 12V rail. I think alot of ppl underestimate the importance of the psu load dc output when using powerhungry hardware.

Silly thing is ; a friend of mine just bought a socket 478 mobo with a Prescott 2,8 Ghz. The thing was almost DOA. It overheated immediately and locked up. He RMA\'d it now.

I have no idea how to overclock but I know what it is. You all say you can overclock 2.4\'s but what about processors that are already 3.2? is it possible?
