Virtua Fighter 4: Evo vs. Soul Caliber 2
« on: August 12, 2004, 04:49:42 PM »
I\'m not much into fighting games but I\'m going back to school and thought a fighting game would be a blast to play with some friends. That being said, which would should I try?

I like the idea of weapons in SC but VF 4 is supposed to be simply better (from what I\'ve heard).

Which one should I get and why (no I don\'t want both even though they\'re both at greatest hits prices).

VF4 requires the most skill out of any fighter.  Arguably the most balanced.

SC2 is a masher\'s paradise, along with other namco fighters.  Stylish characters and moves though.

The Capcoms are all about timing.

VF can be a button masher to a certain extent.

Most people i think are turned off by VF because it has a semi high learning curve and a lot of the times the rounds are short. I think its a damn good game but you cant go wrong with SCII. I think for most people, SCII would be the safer buy. Plus, if anybody comes over to play you, im sure most would be more into SC.

I guess this sounds biased but i really think both games are great.

Take a dive and see what you end up with.

NO it\'s not, but most people play that way . I actually take time to sit down and learn the hell out of a character and button mashers just don\'t stand a chance. The game really becomes fun when I get somebody who is actually skilled at Tekken at the arcades. People who are skilled at these kinds of games will ALWAYS reign supreme over the obnoxious buttonmashers...:D Go skills!! Die button mashing!!

Button mashers are attracted to Tekken more than any other game.  I can\'t begin to count how many button mashing Eddy\'s I\'ve played.  Not nearly as many in Street Fighter.

I said the namcos are mashers because you can pull out some funky sh!t just mashing while it takes more precision to get stuff down in the other games.

SC2 for shizzle dude. The ability to use weapons is provides for someg great times. Not only is it a good 2 player game, i\'ve spent my many hours playing it by myself. The single player mode is quite interesting, i definately recommend it if your look for a fighting game.

get VF4

Have them both.

From the greater fighting game standpoint, it wins.
Think for yourself. Question authority.

Both are weak compared to Street Fighter III Third Strike.  Buy it at the end of the month as part of the Capcom Anniversary Collection (29.99!).  Pre-order it from gamestop along with another game and get free 2-day shipping on both and a free Street Fighter t-shirt.  DO IT BITCHES!  :)

Have to side with Ryu on this one. If you want a truly deep fighting game, then you need to look to Street Fighter III: Third Strike. However, if you are opposed to the great games of 2D, then you should go VF 4: Evo, a game truly based on skill unlike it\'s counterparts (Tekken!).

Buy both SCII and VF4, you can get the pair for as little as $30+tax if you wait for sales.

True or go to Ebay and get them.

Howeverrrrr.....
If you do decide follow the word of the wise (Ryu & I), you should also pick up one of the Capcom Character Controller\'s! I recommend the Ken one. It\'s red and yellow with a Ken design on it! It\'s sure to make you a better player in no time.

I personaly would say VF4 is just as much of a button masher then tekken4, SC2 more then both.  You can\'t really go wrong getting them.. All a great games.

Gotta love those knobs that say tekken requires no skill.   Ahh good laughs..

I hate Tekken 4, personally. VF4 is a bit harder to learn than some games. I actually find I can\'t pull off moves worth a damn when I button mash in VF4. It\'s always better just to learn the moves anyway.

I like Guilty Gear X2, but not many people like it cuz they\'ve never heard of it..and becuz they\'ve never heard of it, I guess that turns them off to it...until they start playing it :D

But since you\'re asking about VF4 or SCII, I really couldn\'t tell you. You should get both...

SCII is just fun when you have a million friends over, and you can\'t go wrong with it. VF4 is for your skilled friends who like that game also. And they both have lots of crap you get to unlock in the game...
