So at what point in the olympics are we going to stop seeing records being broken?  You know you watch swimming and running and it\'s hard to imagine that they are still chopping sometimes over a second off the previous WR.  At some point the world records are going to have to cap out and become unbeatable.  Just wonder how long.

Uhh..

:stick:

Yes they will.

Records will first start being broken by smaller margains. It\'ll be a LONG time before some super swimmer comes along and sets records that won\'t be broken by anyone until another super swimmer comes along.

Also, once technology stops playing a part (inventing faster swimming costumes, etc.) things\'ll slow down.

Chick swimmers beat a 17 year old record by over 2 seconds today.  Friggen druggies.

Yeah, that was pretty badass.

Of course, every single swimmer had a 200 Meter time of under 2 minutes, which is downright insane. Michael Phelps record in that event is 1:55.49, so these girls basically just swam the race of their life. They whooped up on everybody else -- it wasn\'t like the race was close. Also, that record was the longest standing swimming record to date, so, yeah, the record had it coming.

See Yuz.
What do Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Matt Clement, and Carlos Zambrano have in common?

They\'re the pieces to the next great pitching rotation of our time, what else?

GO CUBS!

For the record, I swam the 200m freestyle once in my high school career and came in 2nd place with a time of 2:28.

Some records have already reached the point where they won\'t be broke for a long ass time.  Take for instance Michael Johnson\'s 19.32 in the 200m dash.

Most modern world records are broken because of science creating these new substances.

Take for example baseball\'s homerun record which stood for some 50+ years until a few years ago when now 3 guys have gone past it.

McGuire hits 40-50 a year but busts out one season with 70.  Same with Sosa and Bonds.

You dont wake up one season and hit 30% more home runs then last because you got better,  especially if you\'ve been playing for years already.

It\'s probably more of understanding the human body and being able to better train with that knowledge to ge the most out of what you have.  Of course, I\'m just a naive kid that doesn\'t know much.

I heard somewhere that science has calculated that in ice skating it is conceivable that the body is capable of spinning 7 times before landing.  Last olympics the big thing was people doing quads. It\'s unbelievable to me that they can do 3 more revolutions.

Actually it is possible Clowd, if you think about people are better trained today, with chems or not, so to be able to hit the ball 30 more times out of the park than last year isn\'t inconceivable. Just think if he had connected 30 more times the year before just by chance or training.

It\'s not just training. It\'s smaller parks, expansion pitching, and ect.  The thing is when Bonds hits like 30-40 all career and then suddenly out of no where late in his career has this huge jump in HR output that it gets more than a bit suspicious.
