looks likethe latest news is that  50 or so childeren escaped and then later around 15 parents and children where released...

Lets hope this ends well for all the familys concered.

If I was Putin, I\'d give them their own state. I would then have my bomber pilots "miscalculate" bomb drops during training :)

When the Chechnyan took the Moscow theatre hostage, the Russian special forces used "sleeping gas".. After the gas had taken effect they moved in, and shot the terrorists in their sleep. :cool:

Too bad 120 civilians died because of the gas. :(

Update on the situation: They have started negotiations. The terrorists claim they will blow the school up if the Russian Army refuses to leave Chechnya. 12 civilians have died so far.

Putin is in a hot spot. If the children get killed I wonder if he will sit as firm as he’s doing now.

Many ethnic minorities exist in what is left of Russia.  If Russia permitted independence, speculation is that these other groups would do the same.

Russia grew under the Tsars influence to encompass many different cultures which now exist alongside the predominate Russian culture.

Putin probably just wants to keep Russia all one country and not worry about separating states. Plus, if that happens, others may want to seceed. I\'m actually amazed that Chechnya still has people. Hasn\'t Russia already pretty much demolished everything?
