iMac G5 - It\'s pretty

I bought one of these over the weekend.  It\'s nice to only have one plug to deal with.  It\'s pretty too.

Its old news but it looks pretty nice. I still preffer the towers. Now THOSE are sexy. They just scream power and elegance. Though i havent been a real mac user in years, they still are pretty nice. Gotta love the dual processing.

I have a G5 "Cheese grater" tower at work.  I bought the iMac for home use.

I\'ve been interested in trying out Garage Band\'s amp feature.  You can plug an electric guitar into the iMac and play and record with digital effects, like wah and distortions.  Then you can produce songs and export them into iTunes and burn cd\'s.

Fun for me, but my wife is going to be annoyed.

:stick:

I just retired my ole G3 iMac. OS X is great , but I have retired from the Mac world for awhile, mainly due to gaming.

Did you get the 17 or the 20"?

Anyhoo, congrats and in true Mac fashion you are hereby required to post a pic of your setup.

I bought the 20"

It costs:  $1,899.00 plus tax

20-inch widescreen LCD
1.8GHz PowerPC G5
512K L2 cache
600MHz frontside bus
256MB DDR400 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
64MB DDR video memory
160GB Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load SuperDrive

Got it at CompUSA.  6 month same as cash.

I need to get a different mouse.  I can\'t work efficiently with the artsy one.

Looks Sexy, I just wish more developers acknowledged the Mac OSX.

Plus Macs are way more expensive, still sexy though.

Until you run OS X, you cannot understand how frustrating it can be to need an application that does a certain function and having to search hours upon hours to find one. Don\'t get me wrong, OS X is a beautiful, solid (provided you have decent specs) and functional OS, but it still lacks the developer support to bring it to the prime time. Even though it is based off Unix, you still have to wait for someone to port Unix applications over and sometimes that takes months upon months. Very frustrating experience.. My best advice to anyone running OS X is to install Fink, it will save your ass many times over.

Why can\'t I just use Virtual PC?

As a designer, I use the Adobe Creative Suite, Flash and other programs of that nature.  I just prefer Mac\'s.  I have used Macintosh systems for about 5 years now, and they feel better to me.  I have never had a problem with crashes like on the pc I had at home.

Maybe it\'s just my comfort zone.

Since I own 2 PCs and one G4 Powerbook, I gotta say....maintenance on the PC is a weekly and sometimes daily routine with all the spyware and viruses. My Mac just gets a monthly update. That thing has only crashed once. And that was coz I had no idea what I was doing in Final Cut Express.
