GT4 PS2 and PSP details from Edge

Edge has a n interview with Kazunori Yamauchi, this month the most interesting points being,

GT4 online was up and running but they didn\'t think it was technicallly possible to get a stable game world wide. The online component will not appear soon and they think it needs a 1mbs connection to make it what they want.

The six car limit remains because the high technical standards they employ means the PS2 can\'t do any more. adding 3d credible models of humans also meant the car number stays at 6.

The game offers Pro Logic 2 in game only.

"The physics engine has been totally rewritten for GT4, making the cars feel more natural, my goal was to be able to allow an old women to be able to drive a car in our game as long as she doesn\'t try to go to fast, just like in everyday life I guess." "People who are used to GT3 maybe will stick with that game"

"The AI cars are more natural and less aggressive, so much more polite"

"I\'m pretty confident we\'ll have the same physicsw on the PSP. The problem comes with the games graphics. I think we won\'t be able to keep the same number of cars on screen with the same level of grahical quality. I guess we\'re looking at four, maybe even three cars on screen at the same time. In a worse case scenario we\'ll have two!"

"The PSP has meant that development cycles have changed as they have another platform to deal with and it makes our work harder."

I pulled it from Gaming Age forums...>>>Link<<<

"The AI cars are more natural and less aggressive, so much more polite"

Kinda gay. The AI in GT 1&2 were better than in 3 IMO. They didnt just take the same old line every time. They would actually spin out if they tried to take laguna seca too viciously etc etc. The rear tires on RWD cars would actually become loose etc. I miss those physics. Id say make the cars more agressive but also smarter. Before they were just dumb and ran into you because they dont really recognize you.

Glad to know that the physics have been reworked. I cant wait to find out how thats going to go.

I just hope the AI will see you this time. In GT3 the AI would sometime drive straight up your ass not even trying to avoid you, I have also seen a faster car driving up the rear of a slower car, then driving that way for a longer period of time.

So, you are telling me that they can\'t get a racing game online? That\'s odd, when there are plenty oif other games online. Maybe if Sony would of went with a solid online plan they wouldn\'t of had this problem.

What interest me about this is what he said in regards to the graphic capabilities of the PSP.  Am I reading it right we he says they might be able to get four cars on screen, worst case scenario two?!

What\'s that about?  I thought the PSP was a PS2 on the go and then some?

there\'s PC racing games out there.. and oddly enough, it uses the same "plan" as Sony..

PS2 online market is just not there. not enough ppl to support it, developers dont wanna put money in r&d.
can\'t see why not!

These online problems about support dont mean shit according to what polyphony has been saying.

And about the psp - how could you think that such a small thing would be the ps2 plus more? Im not trying to say that you are dumb, but perhaps the pstwo would have been even smaller (just a guess) if this was true. Anyway, it was obvious from the beginning that if it was a mini ps2 (with the same architecture) the graphics on the games (including death jr) would have been prettier.

I hated the fact that they made that statement because it was obviously not up to par with ps2. To put such components in a handheld would probably run up the cost, considering its smaller than even the pstwo and it can do more (mp3, movie playback).

Not surprising.

You answered your own question.  Somewhere along the lines I heard that the PSP is just as powerful, and then some in cases, as the PS2.  I take it that\'s not correct and I\'ve been a victim of Sony blowing smoke up my ass...feels violated

No it was the fact that you posed the question so late. I didnt answer the question. From evidence of the first games demoed for it, it should have been either obvious that is wasnt or odd at least. I always was skeptical but this only proves my assumptions. Not that im not interested in the PSP still.

Stop blaming Sony for hype generated by media and others. It\'s your own damn fault if you fall victim of that hype.

Maybe you should try and hide your anti-Sony sentiment a little harder. You\'ve improved since you first came here but it still shines through in many of your posts.

"The PSP is a portable game machine, and people may think it\'s oriented towards playing simple games, but it really has the same hardware performance as the PS2," comments Yamauchi in the interview. "Since we\'re already developing the GT4\'s system on the PS2 hardware, we\'re planning to port that directly to the PSP."

The quote is actually from the developers of GT4 Mobile, not Sony as I had thought, my bad.  I had found another quote but it was from the developers of a game called Death, Jr....anyway, that\'s irrelavant now.

lol, I\'ve taken jabs at all the console companies at one time or another but I will admit I tend to criticize PS2 more because this is a PS2 forum....it\'s exactly the opposite on the TXB forums, I\'m arguementative so I take whichever side I can.
