Polyphony Digital also announced the development of Gran Turismo 5 for PlayStation 3, the game will have damage model for the first time, to make the game more realistic. GT5 will support the EyeToy camera, you can take pictures of a car and the game can use it to build a custom car.

Mark my word and this thread.
Gran Turismo 5 will not feature car damage. If it does, it will be extremely minor. This is nothing but pre-launch hype.

It could, but that would most likley limit the number of cars.

Great, so if I run an extension cord out to the driveway, I can set up the PS2 and EyeToy and snap a pic of my car.

If all the digital photos for GT4 are in a high enough resolution, I don\'t see why there should be any less than in this game, as they could just reuse most of the cars, and then some.

just up the poly counts on some of the rough edges and maybe better textures. Of course the tracks themselves will have to be tweaked a lot.

About the car damage - I would almost have to agree with LIC but it would be pretty damn cool if they did do it.

"During an interview with series producer Kazunori Yamauchi, it was mentioned that Polyphony would like to add detailed car damage to the game for the next incarnation on PS3.

Yamauchi said, “So far in the Gran Turismo series, we haven\'t had cars crash or overturn. We believed expressing this properly to be more difficult than actually making [the cars] race. In addition to properly replicating the underside of the car, when a collision occurs we\'d have to have proper shape changes based on proper physical calculations. In Gran Turismo 5, we\'d like to definitely add this element. We believe it will be a big theme."

Sounds like Polyphony is up for a lot of extra work in their next installment. It was also mentioned that they may use a motion capture device (like EyeToy) to control certain aspects of the game. While no concrete plans were relayed, it is of note that Sony has mentioned a possible EyeToy-like device for the PS3."

Because obviously you know how much power the PS3 will have. Oh No!! Car Damage!! The next generation of consoles better run!!

Consider them marked. I\'m sure the PS3 won\'t have enough mathematical output to conquer such a laborious task such as "car damage"!! *gasp*

How about...let\'s just wait and see...

Uh?

I didnt mean the cars on the track, I meant the number of car models in the game.

If they are going to be destroyable, they\'ll have to redo all the models again, because the polygon count must be higher then the GT3/4 models and the models must have a "skeleton" if you know what I mean. That is, if Yamauchi wants the cars to behave realistically and all cars having different performances when crashing, which I know he wants.

It has nothing to do with the power of the PS3, but man hours. If it takes half a  month to model a car in GT3 and 4, I can only dream of the time it will take to recreate all the things needed for a destroyable car.

Oh...well then :D Maybe if they start working on it now, they\'ll have like 5 cars :shy: Hmmm...maybe this won\'t be a launch game or anything. Cuz it seems like insane amounts of work.

Exactly what we/ve been saying.

And about what LIC said - That too had nothing to do with power (of ps3), or so im assuming. More like, which companies would be willing to allow it and the work that has to be put into it etc etc.

Meh.

Didnt Project Gotham 2 have a ferrari in there? And im pretty sure they had car damage in there. COME ON FERRARI! STOP BEING GAY!

And i know we\'ll probably never get Lambo\'s back after what happened with GT3.
