Outsourcing! Did the online tech help this morning with HP for my Ipaq cradle that is obviously defective. The power cord will not stay in and it won\'t charge the Ipaq. Why am I not surprised I was speaking to an outsourced job. Here is the conversation I had:

Are you referring to the barrel connector?
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:17 AM] -- Eric H
yes it seems to be loose inside and won\'t allow it to stay connected. I believe it is defective since this only the second or third time I have removed it and plugged it back in since I have had it.

Does the amber light flash when the iPAQ is connected using the connector?
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:20 AM] -- Eric H
no, but it does sync which tells me the USB port is working properly. No light comes on when it is in its cradle.

The outlet on the cradle for the power is loose. When I plug in the adapter it wiggles around and falls out.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:22 AM] -- Kiran R
Could you provide me the part number of that please?
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:23 AM] -- Eric H

Please give me five more minutes. I shall check on this.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:29 AM] -- Eric H
thanks
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:32 AM] -- Kiran R
Since when have you been experiencing the issue?
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:32 AM] -- Eric H
just today
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:33 AM] -- Eric H
I have only had this for about 6 months or less
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:35 AM] -- Kiran R
I understand that this has gradually developed over this time period.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:36 AM] -- Eric H
not to my knowledge. As I have stated, I have only unplugged the AC PS from the cradle two or three times before.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:44 AM] -- Kiran R
I suggest that you check with another good known cradle.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:46 AM] -- Eric H
I have the only HP cradle in the office. This is obviously a defective cradle. I need to get it replaced and it is under warranty.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:51 AM] -- Kiran R
This will help me isolate the issue.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:53 AM] -- Eric H
The issue is the power input connector on the cradle is broken. It will not hold the plug and it will not charge the unit when it is in its cradle.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:57 AM] -- Kiran R
Unfortunately, this cannot be replaced by us.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:57 AM] -- Kiran R
You will need to purchase a new cradle.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:57 AM] -- Eric H
Why not? Am I talking to someone in the United States? This is a warranty item. You have to be kidding.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:58 AM] -- Kiran R
I understand your concern.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 9:59 AM] -- Eric H
Well then why can\'t it be replaced? You can\'t give me an RFP number?
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 10:00 AM] -- Eric H
You also didn\'t answer my question regarding if I was talking to someone in the United States.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 10:01 AM] -- Kiran R
No Eric. I am located in India.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 10:01 AM] -- Eric H
Wear and tear? 3 times is wear and tear?
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 10:01 AM] -- Eric H
I thought so. I know you can\'t help me with this now. Thanks anyway.
[ Mon, Nov 29, 2004 10:02 AM] -- Kiran R
We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please accept our apologies for not being able to be of any assistance to you in this regard.

Ok have a good day.
Nothing against India or anything, but when companies like HP want you to use their "online support" they should tell you upfront that this kind of support can not help you with certain issues.
