list the game systems you\'ve had over the years...
« on: December 05, 2004, 02:34:22 PM »
i would like for you cats to make a list plus list any games that you felt at the time was the marquee game for that system..here it goes..

-ATARI 2600

activision boxing---anybody remember this game? i spent hours playin this when i first got it...heh some might call me racist for what i\'m about to say but the 2600 had a switch where you could change the color to black and white..and i would always switch over to black and white and pick the black boxer to beat up the white one...:p...yes i was a racist little bastard back then...and look at me now:eek:  j/k eh but what you expect? they showed "ROOTS" alot back then...:p

enduro--activision racing game..

pitfall--who didn\'t have this game

space invaders--classic

pac-man---this was thee most horrible iteration of pacman made..nuff said...

asteroids--good at the time..amazing that these games each cost about 40.00 bucks a pop..

-ATARI 5200

popeye--ok for what it was..and that\'s it! the 5200 had very little support

-COMMODORE 128

project firestart---an excellent sci-fi alien type game at the time

two on two b-ball by EA...used to love this b-ball game..good times.

karateka--a great karate adventure game for the commodore

-NES

wcw wrestling--the best wrestling game of that generation

mike tyson\'s punchout---great game...one of the all time greats...

tecmo bowl--who could forget this game?

*this is getting long so i\'ll try to just post two games per system*

-GENESIS

madden 94--the best football game in that gen.  tho i did like that joe montana sports talk football...that was amazing for the technology they had back then...

there was this one great sci fi game on the genesis i can\'t remeber the name of it, but it was awesome game...it wasn\'t "out of this world" either damn maybe it\'ll come to me...

streets of rage--played this for hours on end...

-PLAYSTATION

battle arena toshiden--heh who thought this game was the bomb when they first peeped it? :D...i know i did..ironic how shallow that game really is...:P

-resident evil---this game basically started the horror gen..as we know it... nuff said

*uhm maybe you cats can break it down to the system YOU thought was the best in the past instead of listing every single system...this looks waaay too long*:D
knowledge, wisdom & understanding..these are the basic fundamentals of life

if you can\'t amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh*t....

NES -
I got one for Christmas after Mario Bros. 3 was released.  Didn\'t really get into gaming until the SNES came out...

SNES -
Super Mario World sold me from the first time I had seen it.  I still play it to this day.

Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past - one of the best games of all time in my book.  (I just started it again today!)

Super Metroid, Final Fantasy III, Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country, and Mario Kart deserve mention.

Sega Saturn -
NiGHTS, Panzer Dragoon & Panzer Dragoon Zwei were defining games for the system, imo, classics even.

N64 -
I have to mention Mario 64, even though I didn\'t like it I understand that it is great.

Goldeneye, and anything else from Rare deserve a mention, and Mario Kart 64.

Playstation -
(My PS2 doubles as my first playstation)

Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, and the Final Fantasy series.

Dreamcast -
Sonic Adventure, I thought it was great.  I still say Windy Valley is the most well designed stage...ever.  It would be great if they could capture the speed and thrill from that stage and put it in the entire game.

Soul Calibur - come on, it knocked all the naysayers on their asses, it was fun as well.:)

Shenmue - I really don\'t know how to describe this other than to say it\'s special and deserves recognition.

Skies of Arcadia - didn\'t get the attention it deserves.  I suppose Sega should have opted for FMV cut scenes and drama to get the attention of the FF crowd.

Not going to mention Xbox, PS2 or GC...

Atari - Don\'t even remember
NES - Zelda (1st one, gold cartridge), Super Mario Bros. (all of them), Metroid, Spy Hunter, The Guardian Legend (I still play this one), Mike Tyson\'s Punch Out
Super NES - Final Fantasy series, Super Metroid, Mortal Kombat 2 (don\'t ask)
Sega Genesis - Sonic the Hedgehog(1-3), Toejam & Earl, Golden Axe II, Ballz 3D ( :p ), Ren & Stimpy, Earthworm Jim
GameBoy (like 90 versions)
Sega Nomad - Well...basically the same collection as Genesis
Jaguar - Meh...
Sony PlayStation - Twisted Metal 2, Jet Moto, Final Fantasy VII (and all), Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, Crash Bandicoot, Thrill Kill, and a million others I truely enjoyed
Nintendo 64 - GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Mario 64, Smash Brothers
Sega Dreamcast - Shenmue = Incredible, and I could list a million

In order of appearance:

Atari 2600/7800: Hard to tell. Possibly Joust, although I have about 50 games and a lot of them are good.

NES: Even tougher, but it\'s easy to say SMB3 because it\'s one of the deepest and highest quality NES titles and definitely the most popular seller.

Genesis: Stop making me choose favorites! Ehhhh, maybe Sonic the Hedgehog 2? Again, I can\'t list them all.

SNES: Zelda III is my favorite SNES game, but it\'s not the marquee game.

Virtual Boy: It\'s gotta be one of the Mario ones, or Wario Land. Probably Mario Tennis or Clash.

Game Boy: Pokemon, without a doubt. Among the grand amount of GB games available, it is the apex of what the GB could do IMO.

Nintendo 64: Tough. The marquee games that everybody knows are SM64, OOT, and GoldenEye but this system has at least a few dozen rock-solid titles.

Game Boy Color: Pokemon again, Gold and Silver. Honorable mentions go to the Zelda Oracle games and Shantae.

Dreamcast: Marquee game? Shenmue.

Game Boy Advance: Hmm. Developers have kept this console well-stocked with AAA titles so I can\'t really choose a marquee game.

GameCube: There are a lot of great titles here (I own about 35) but no.1 is almost undisputably Metroid Prime IMO. I haven\'t played MP2 yet so I can\'t say it\'s better.

Xbox: Marquee game is easily Halo but it\'s not my favorite Xbox title by any means. I enjoyed KOTOR, Splinter Cell 1/2, and PDO to name a handful.

NDS: I only have 1 store-bought game, SM64DS, and it\'s great.

Cool.

I had the backwards compatible Atari. Wasn\'t that the 7600 or something? I have trouble with the numbers. I remember I had Asteroids and some others, but looking back, the most notable game I had was E.T.

Now my goal is to one day reassemble that collection.

I\'ve kept my other systems.

I have all the Game Boy iterations, but don\'t have one copy of GB Tetris, heh. GB, Pocket, Color, Advance, SP and now I have the DS.

I have a couple NES systems. One\'s in my car now. :) My favorite games are Tetris and Punch-Out!! with notable mentions to SMB 1 and 3 and Dr. Mario. Just recently had the privelege to play through Castlevania for the first time.

SNES. I liked Saturday Night Slam Master and Uniracers. There\'s two great games that are over looked to some of the others. Also enjoyed the Marios, Yoshi, Star Fox, Street Fighter II Turbo, NBA Jam, MK2... That was a hell of a system.

I got the underrated Virtual Boy. I liked Mario Tennis, Teleroboxer and Galactic Pinball. To this day I wish that system had a longer life.

N64 was big for me. You have to mention GoldenEye and Mario 64. I also loved the WCW and WWF games by AKI. They made their mark and only now are reclaiming the greatness with Def Jam Fight for NY.

I almost forgot I picked up a Dreamcast for cheap. Sadly I only have Shenmue and a fishing game that came with a memory card. I\'d love to get some 2D fighters and maybe Sonic.

I have PS2, GCN and Xbox. On PS2 I went back and picked up a couple of PS1 wrestling titles. I wanted to experience the travesty of Thunder and see where AKI\'s stellar engine started with WCW vs the World.

First played a Pong unit with the classy wood grain body and attached rotary dials.  This was when I was a kid so parents sold it.  I bought it back via ebay though.  I don\'t think we\'ll ever see a console in wood grain again haha.

did they even release neo-geo in oz?  doubtful, a 600$ console would have ruined the economy since you guys use wood chips for currency and all.

anyways, if it was sold in a store, it was a major release knucklehead.  it\'s not like i had to import it.

^ funny, I know plenty of consoles that "sell in stores" that doesn\'t make them MAJOR releases knuckle head.

ps.. we\'re not the ones with a recession problem...

how can you have a recession when you use wood chips for currency?  i remember the great depression in oz when you guys switched off the painted rocks standard.   what a scare that was, England didn\'t think it would have a place to send all it\'s convicts.

anyways, if a console is sold IN stores around the country and had more than a few games, it\'s a major release.

I can add an Atari 7800 to my list now. I just won one on Ebay last night with the following games:

ASTEROIDS
CENTIPEDE
CHOPLIFTER
COMBAT
DIG DUG
DONKEY KONG
FOOD FIGHT
GALAGA
JOUST
KARATEKA
MS. PAC-MAN
ONE ON ONE BASKETBALL
PAC-MAN
POLE POSITION II
SPACE INVADERS
XEVIOUS

All I have to do now is pick up E.T. and Mario Bros. (And apparently Tron?)

The whole thing costs me about $80 with shipping.
