RYU, Question about dLP

I have a Dell 2800mp, at 102" with a HTPC running ffdshow with about 4 filters, including 1200/768 resizing, deinterlacing and postprocesing and it looks unreal.   But like THX said, light is your enemy with projectors.

That is horse shit.

DLPs have BY FAR the widest viewing angle of any rear projection unit.

Only flat screen and front projection can beat it.

Where DLP loses it\'s light is virtical viewing angle.  If you are standing up looking down at it it looks like shit and lying on the floor right below it it looks like shit.

I have a seat that is about 70 degrees from center and it looks maybe 5% less light tops.

I\'ve had my 56" for a year and a half and would by the same tv again.
I wear a necklace now because I like to know when I\'m upside down.

I\'m pretty sure when Vid bought his, the sole company that made a DLP was Samsung...

Thanks, can\'t wait till thursday( delivery day!!!) The salesperson said that the PS2 through component looks killer. Hope so. Kid with a new toy. Keep in mind I\'m going from a 27in. analog t.v. to the 46in.   :wav2:

Samsung HLN 567W

Did you get a tuner?  I got them to give me one free when I bought mine.  I also paid 600 bucks under list.  These guys have so much play it\'s not even funny.

Then the ones I was looking at were probably not of exellent quality coz even the salesman agreed with my horse shit. Right now, from my PC (and Mac), I\'m at about a 60 degree angle to my TV. If I had a DLP, it\'d look like horse shit.

I got mine for about 800 under list plus some really good prices on dvi and component cables. The tuner will be supplied with my digital cable. You are entirely correct about the leeway some salespeople have.Have to learn to haggle. Vid, do you have a ps2 hooked up to it? If so, is it by component and how does it look.
As for viewing angle, in the store it appeared very good.I walked around all side and looked down at it and the view was fine.Disn\'t lay on the ground but don\'t intend to be on the ground when I\'m useing it. I will be about 8 ft. away and about eye level.

Manual exposure with an 8 second shutter.

I did the side one first.

And then this one with same settings from the front.

A little over exposed now, but not much.  DOn\'t forget, this is an 8 second exposure so any small change would really make a difference.

How much was yours, Vid?

Look, I\'m only telling you what I saw at the stores. Unless the salesmen was showing me a non-DLP screen but thought it was, I\'m telling you it got darker from an angle.

CRT screens get DRAMATICALLY darker from the sides.  Their viewing angle is probably around 60 degrees tops.  My screen is around 160 degrees.

Mine was I think 3700.  I think that\'s what it was.  They were listing in the mid 4\'s when I bought it.

Weighs about 80 pounds I bet.  Not too sure.  Very light.

No, just using S-video cables.

Don\'t spend much on cables  Especially DVI cables.  Digital streams aren\'t going to get the interference that analog will.

CRT? Like the regular tube TVs? No they don\'t darker from an angle.
