RYU or anyone, Question about dLP
« on: December 09, 2004, 10:37:17 AM »
Seems like I heard you mention the samsung Dlp television in a recent post. I was just wondering if you own one and what your opinion is of it. I\'m thinking of getting the 42 in. model for the den and gameing. Thing is I just received a 12% off coupon from best buy that has to be used this weekend so I guess I have to make up my mind fast. This type of purchase usually takes me forever.
I tend to reserch to death before purchase :D . Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I set my uncle\'s up for him so my experience with actually watching them is limited to a few dvd\'s in 1080i.  From what I watched, the black levels are just unparalleled.  Absolutely gorgeous.  Plus, watching DVD\'s with a really nice progressive scan player on this TV is just a dream.  If you do buy one, just make sure that you get one that has HDTV built in as I think some models are ready for some card or something like that.

how did you watch a dvd in 1080i?  Does he have a pc hooked up to it?  Because you can get HD movies, but you need windows media player to play them.  The only other way I know of is a poor mans HD dvd, by resizing the DVD with ffdshow.

There are a few players that upscale to 1080i, but they are either total crap or Denons. :)  Doesn\'t matter since DLPs don\'t display 1080i, highest DMD chip Texas Instruments makes does 720p.

DLP is still the best choice for abosultely no burn-in while providing the best black levels.

I could have swore it had 1080i support... My mistake then.  In any case, the 720p was awesome looking.  :p

This was my main point as it has mostly to do with how it projects the image on the screen so the black levels are just perfect.  Plus, the prices on these TV\'s have gone down big time since they came out.  2999 is nothing compared to the 3999 and 4999 they used to be going for.

DLP looks great....until you view teh screen from a 45 degree angle or more. IMO, it has limited viewing agles. For my place, it just won\'t work out.

So should I not go with 720p. I understand the more lines the better but for what I can afford the dlp is in my price range. I guess I could keep saving up. Suggestions?

omen, someone else, and I went with the current DLP projectors out now.  Each paid around $1000.

I\'m with an Infocus 4805 blowing up the image to 80" and it looks great.  Only thing is you need a light controlled room like a basement.

And I wasn\'t hoping to make fun of Cyrus, just have some fun. :)  I like being an idiot sometiems.

edit- I always confuse gman and omen for some crazy reason.
