New twist on an old theme...

For peeps that listen to more than one style of music, suggest an artist or group for each genre.

Rap/hip hop: People Under the Stairs, "O.S.T." great old-school style hip hop w/ a lil\' turntable action. Nice & groovy.

Metal Fu Manchu. Anything by them.

Electronica Boards of Canada, "music has the right to children" Scottish duo makes trippy, lo-fi beats & bleeps & bloops

Rock Soundtrack of our Lives, "Behind the Music" Swedes rock out in an unpretentious Who/beatles/stones wasy.

World Music Deep in the Heart of Tuva... if you can find this album get it. Tuva is a tiny country in the Himalayas. These dudes can sing multi-part harmonies with themselves by forcing air through their noses and resonating their sinuses. Sometimes while playing a guitar of sorts. Freakin\' amazing, especially if you consider the nature of the songs. Basically, they just do this sitting on a mountainside singing to God in a trance-like state,  thanking them for their lives.

uncategorized music Super Furry Animals, "phantom power", "rings around the world". Wow. Welsh dudes with a political/environmental agenda make trippy, beatlesy, electronica/type freak out stuff.

Dance St Etienne "foxbase alpha". Old school stuff again. Break out your Baggies & trainers, and grab a striped T...

Punk Misfits.

add categories as you see fit.

hmm might aswell thow something into the mix.

Pain of Salvation - 12-5 live album, all of the songs they play are completly redone, all unplugged and just very nicely played, this version of Oblivion Ocean is 10x better than the original.

Latin:
*Wish I knew more of the artists\' names but since one of our rock stations went "burrito" I\'ve been digging this music.
Elvis Crespo - Most known for Suavemente but he has other great songs too
Kumbia Kings - Always fun to listen to
Azul Azul - La Bomba
Shaft - Mucho Mambo Sway

Big Band/Jazz:
Bobby Darin - This is my favorite album of all time.
Dean Martin - Pick up an Essential DM album sometime, he\'s got the smoothest voice.
Michael Buble - Moondance.  If you like how he sings that song check out his other stuff.

Folk/Pop:
*I lump these 2 together because current artists seem to be combining the two, successfully
Jason Mraz - Check out his live stuff
Rufus Wainwright - Self depreciating yet catchy music with a piano & a big open voice.  He sang a song on the Moulin Rouge ST.
Alison Krauss - A Living Prayer.  I\'ll throw her in here too.  Very pure voice, doesn\'t need vibrato or machines to sound good.  She and her band got popular after doing the O Brother, Where Art Thou? ST.

Rock:
hmmmm 311 ;).  I like to whore this band out but if you have Netflix or extra cash check out their latest concert DVD (311 Day 2004).  The singers harmonize good together, and they do some covers from the Clash & Led Zepplin.

Pop in some Roger Waters.

I say this because even if you think you like Pink Floyd (and a lot of people of multiple generations do) you haven\'t heard all of it if you haven\'t heard Waters\' solo work.

His hair is huge, and annoying. If he was a kid I was going to school with, I\'d kick his ass for having a stupid haircut.

That caught my eye too. But you have to remember that a lot of these rappers a little while back like NWA and Ice T had huge white followings. Without them they probably wouldnt be as well off as they are right now.

And Hip Hop is the shit. So is the video and a couple of remixes that i have on my computer.

THX - you have just gained major points in my book. 311 - Awesome. I dont really care much about what some people think of them but they have never been incredibly mainstream (not that thats always terrible. Or is it?) and they keep changing though they still sound like 311. 311 concerts are basically the only concerts i go to.

Anyway, i could list a million songs but half the shit i listen to im sure others wouldnt enjoy but what the hell:

Hip Hop:

(The) Time Machine - anything of theirs almost. Hard to find for free though

M.O.P. - They have so much music its hard to hand pick a song or too that anybody would like. They are more hardcore underground. A good mix of hip hop and some radio rap. A couple good songs are power, ante up, cold as ice, blood sweat tears. The list goes on

OH NO - He\'s madlib\'s little brother. Not to bad either. I have his cd but again, hes hard to find for free

Tribe Called Quest - This is a nobrainer. Award Tour, Bonita Applebaum, Electric Relaxsation etc etc.

Gangstarr - another older guy. Moment of Truth, Skills, Just to Get a Rep

Princess Superstar - You\'ll either love her or dispise her greatly. Most will probably hate her but shes goofy, dirty and doesnt give a fuck. The best part is - SHES WHITE (had to say it). Bad Babysitter, Come Up to My Room, Keith and Me (one version sucks and the other sounds way better. She has them on her web site.

Electronica (general):

LTJ Bukem - hes been in the game for a long time. He does mostly Jungle and DnB. Most people like him when he does solo projects because his partner - MC Conrad sounds to annoying. Personally i like him either way - Anything from him

Michael Gray - I just picked up one song of his called "The Weekend." Its not bad but its not spectacular. Semi dance - ish and repetative.

Geri (Halliwell aka ex Ginger Spice) - Her song Ride It is decent for those dance/euro people.

The Prodigy - another no brainer

Utah Saints - Just heard of them - more or less. Lost Vagueness is a decent song but i think the (oliver Lieb vocal mix is the best). Another semi repetative one.

Omni Trio - Mellow relaxation electronica. Not very Dance - ish - Fire and Native Soil are good songs

The New Deal - An electronica band. Odd yes but true. Not half bad

Banco de Gaia - Obsidian

Break Beat Era

MC Tali

Trip Hop:

Wagon Christ - He goes by a lot of names but the song "Shadows" under his wagon christ name is decent - not to out there for the non trip hop fan.

Portishead - Some people like them some people dont.

Massive Attack - Same deal as Portishead - Teardrop

OK THIS IS GETTING TOO LONG. I COULD GO ON FOREVER IN ALMOST ANY GENRE BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? IM TIRED.

Well if anybody is still reading this point, If you like skate punkish stuff check out Pennywise.

Why i had to add that: I dont know.
