So offense to you southerners :) I was browsing through Snopes.com and found this. I can\'t believe its true. Are they serious? The state mandated that fractions and decimals can\'t be taught. I hope this has been reversed since then because this is absolutely the dumbest thing I ever heard.

I believed it at first. I mean, there are some religious fundamentalists in the south that do crazy things. I wasn\'t sure about state legislature though.

LOL.

This reminds me when I was in 7th grade, my math teacher, I believe his name is Mr. Flack taught us a method to get an answer in an equation.

Something like this,

1/2 = x/8

What is x?  He uses the method of multiplying the number 2 to equal 8 which is 4 and does the same on top.  Which means x = 4.

Then I said, there is another method which is cross multiply.  He said no that won\'t work or something.  But cross multiply does work and cross multiply was later cover in the next several chapters...

well Cross Multiple is the only way to do it.  He\'s just lucky there was a 1 on top of that 2.  Essentially he was using the cross multiply method.  He just didn\'t realize it.

You can solve the equation by saying 1/2 times 8 and saying x times 8...its just an equation

Cross Multiply you mean.  Not Cross Multiple...

Actually, there is other methods beside Cross Multiply such as DeAnna method which just make "X" alone, and in this case, by multiplying 8 on both sides...
