Weird problem when viewing in 800 X 600
« on: February 06, 2005, 10:49:24 AM »
When I set my monitor to 800 X 600, the view is out of alignment with the monitor, it\'s stretched off the top & bottom of the screen, and is about 1.5 inches narrower than it should be at both sides.

Now, I know some smart arse is going to say "set it to 1024 X 768 or above". Before you waste your time quipping in with that remark, let me tell you that I normally set it to that anyway, and when it\'s at that setting, there\'s no problem.

The thing that bothers me about the problem at 800 X 600, is that (a) when I launch games, the problem affects the ingame menus, and (b) when I\'m working on my website, I use the 800 X 600 view to check what it looks like to other people who might be using that setting.

How do I fix it so it fits the entire screen in 800 X 600 like it is at all the other resolutions?

Change the settings? Or doesn\'t your monitor remember the different settings?

Did you try another refresh rate? I.e. instead of, say, 60 try 75 or 85.

I have no idea. What I was thinking about, was if I altered the settings of the 800 X 600 resolution, would that affect the the settings of the other res settings, or is each one set independent of the rest?

I just changed the refresh rate, and that fixes it, but doesn\'t that cause eye strain? I recall someone saying that high refresh rates can cause eye stress.

edit//

when I change the refresh rate, it distorts the 1024 X 768 resolution at the edges.

I think if you change the settings on the monitor, it remembers it for each resolution - but I\'m not entirely sure. Try it out (say by moving the picture upwards, so that you can easily go back if it stays that way @ 1024x768 as well).

Pretty much most monitors have memory save for each resolution and refresh rate.  If you adjust screen size and position say for 800 x 600 @ 75 Hz, and you switch to 1024 x 768 @ 75 Hz, the 1024 x 768 @ 75 Hz won\'t affect the 800 x 600 or vice versa.

So if you fill the screen on your display for 800 x 600, you shouldn\'t have to worry about your 1024 x 768 because it won\'t affect it.  That means, if you switch back and forth after you adjust the 800 x 600, both screen will be filled up.

You got it the other way around.  Higher refresh rate doesn\'t causes eye strains.  Lower refresh rates does.
On my computers, I can see flickers on 60 Hz and lower.

But 72 Hz and higher, i can\'t see any noticable flickers and thus doesn\'t causes eyestrain.  My recommend refresh rate should be 75 Hz or higher.  But higher than 85 hz is not necessary since you can\'t detect any flickering.

Or "did you buy the monitor from someone living in a straw hut?" which he thinks everyone outside the US does.

Well, I can understand it, mm is the most techically minded, most  up-to-date with this internet lark, most cool dood that ever walked the face of the planet.

While we are surfing the net in the stone age of 2005, he is browsing the information super highway 4 years ahead of us in 2009.

We don\'t realise how lucky we are to have him tell us we are "so 4 years ago..." every day. It\'s about time we all got down on our hands and knees and paid homage to the most happening guy on earth.

Bill Gates must be shitting himself, as mm has seen the future 4 years before the rest of us has.

:D ;)

Sorry chaps, I feel so ashamed of myself, I feel so dirty & used by letting myself be lowered to this calibre (or lack of) of comment.

I don\'t know what came over me, just one of those momentary lapses I guess.

Oh-hum.

Can a brother ever be forgiven??

:) :D
