Although unable to reach the accelerator, the boy managed to put the car in gear and make his way to the store, a quarter-mile from his home, about 1:30 a.m. Friday, Sand Lake Police Chief Doug Heugel said. Finding the store closed, the youngster began a slow trip home.

Weaving and with its headlights off, the car got the attention of Officer Jay Osga, who first thought he was following a car that had been left running at a gas pump.

He flipped on his lights when the car turned into the apartment complex and struck two parked cars. The boy put the car in reverse and struck Osga\'s cruiser.

The mother told police her son tried to drive the car earlier after she let him steer from her lap.

"He\'s 4 years old. His mom didn\'t even know he was up," Heugel told The Grand Rapids Press. "I don\'t think he even realizes what he did."

No charges will be filed against the boy or his mother, Heugel said.

Still pretty impressive for a 4 yr old. I guess he\'ll want to be a race driver when he grows up.

While i dont agree with the comment made about the LAPD being a cancer to society, i do think that the cops were pretty stupid. Fire first ask questions later. *shakes head*

I hate to just flip a thread into something else but i found it interesting.

When the driver starts to strike objects with the car such as their cruiser they are taught to shot to kill.  Better him than him ramming some other person.  Nobody knows how it exactly went down.

i\'ll let the thread jackin\' ride since you\'re a brother! ..yea that s**t is f**ked up..i mean the kid was wrong but i\'m sure they didn\'t have to kill him...also what i don\'t agree with is how at the end of the article they talk of anoter case where some cops was awarded 2.4 million for beating a black teen..i remember that it was the incident where they slammed him on the trunk of the car and that one white cop was punching him in the face even tho he was handcuffed and had like four other cops around him...and they get 2.4 million because they felt them getting suspended and fired was wrong from the jump?..that\'s the s**t that gets me pissed off!

When they hit other objects they are taught to shoot to kill? That bull. If the person hits a fucking street sign they wont shoot somebody. And its not like he rammed them head on. He BACKED into them. Police officers sacrifice cuisers during chases all the time.

As people trained with firearms, im sure they should have at least been able to shoot at the right shouler/legs or something. Not only that but the kid didnt even have a weapon drawn. Sure the possibility of him having one was there but its not like they had to shoot the shit out of him to make sure.

True, few know how it happened exactly, but their actions are still fairly far from justified.
