Need some RAM Opinions (overclocking)
« on: March 01, 2005, 07:00:45 AM »
I have an A64 3000+ and I love it to death.  But i\'m running it with some Corsair Value Ram.  It\'s pc3200 and runs at the speeds advertised, but I want to get my A64 up to it\'s full potential.  And as you know value ram = no overclocking ability whatsoever.

What are some good sticks of RAM to look at for this?  I\'d like to bump the FSB up from around 204 up to the 230-240 range.  Would some PC4000 (ddr500) be the easiest way to go?  I don\'t want to spend more than $225.

Just curious, what\'s so good about Corsair?

I always buy Crucial.

ok, you are right.  Value ram will overclock... a measley 8mhz.  I got it up to 215 and it would be stable for only a few hours and only a matter a minutes while gaming.  208 is nice and stable for days on end.

would high end pc3200 or entry level pc4000 be my best bet?

I have the 2Gb Corsair Twinx PC4000 ram.

Not the smartest choice for my P4 3,2 on the Intel 875 board. I\'ll never get it to run sync. FSB won\'t go higher than 215.

Now it runs DDR400 dual channel linear mode by spd settings. I should have went with PC3200 with ultra tight latency settings instead maybe :(

Not that it\'s bad right now, quality stuff indeed, but as for price performance ratio i chose the inefficient way.

Value Ram can overclock quite well. But you need chipset cooling. I have Thermaltake Cooper Sinks on my ram, i don\'t overclock though, i just change the memory timings.
