I also don\'t like the fact that my money would be used to support those who don\'t work or don\'t want to work.  I prefer to pay for my healthcare and after all you get what you pay for.  As Gman said, this country has nearly 300 million people in it, if healthcare was free going into see the doctor would be an ordeal.  As of now if I have a problem like an upper respiratory infection I can get in the same day and it only takes 20 minutes.

Health care is not a universal right for those not willing to work for it.  This is capitalism and yes it is a business.  The population of this country alone would hinder any attempt at universal healthcare being efficient.  Furthermore, some in my generation and most in this younger generation expect everthing for free and sorry, but that is not how things work.  If you don\'t have healthcare, get off your ass, go find a full time job and work like most Americans do.

Lastly, I agree medical costs are too high and I do agree something should be done about making it more affordable, but that is another discussion.

wow...i know a lot of the times we\'re on the opposite side of the spectrum, but i agree 100% here. unemployment would not decrease as a result of a universal healthcare system...you have companies even today making record profits, yet they turn around and still layoff employees. i also agree with thx..in a perfect world universal healthcare would work...but we all know the true reality of the world we live in...

Meh, Australia has a universal health care system and our unemployoment rate is lower than the USA\'s. Is it because we have almost 1/11th your population? No, it\'s because we don\'t have morons who think that "I\'m the shit and everyone else is just trying to get a free ride from my tax dollars."

I mean if you considered what you\'d do if you didn\'t have to worry about your health care costs, do you think YOU would work less? Your answer would be NO, but you\'d probably ask "what about other people who I think are lazy fuckers who are only out to get a free ride from my tax dollars?" NEWSFLASH: Chances are they\'d think the same way you do and probably work harder than you do.

I guess that\'s the problem for The United States of Stupidity. No confidence in their fellow citizens.

Sorry Avatarr, but everybodys looking for a free ride.  It has nothing to do with "being the shit" and everything to do with sustaining yourself, not others.

Also, learn to articulate, instead of calling people stupid.  Maybe if you went to one of the States top Universities you\'d be able to I guess. *shrugs*

USA USA USA USA!!!! ;)

Healthcare needs to work as a business so it can progress.  Competition is good.  Do you want to pay the $500 fee for eye surgery with the Doc who has the crappy laser or $2k for the guy who has the latest Lasic tech?  Good news is it\'s up to you.  If it was up to the government you better believe quality will suffer to answer public outcry of higher taxes.

It won\'t work here coz we have 150 million fat people. Another 150 million that are kids, too old, healthy average types, illegals...etc.
