Getting a new computer

im not in any shape way or form computer savy. But after spending a grand this will last me a while, and ill be able to run games like Battlefield 2 on high graphics. Anyway, i wont get it for a little under a month for a couple reasons.

asus a8n sli mobo
amd 64 3000 + (socket939)
6800 pci express 128 mb vid card (sinlge but later can match another to it to get the sli feature)
80 gig western digital 7200 rpm
alien ware black / red clear side shield
2 red firecracker fans neon
1 gig pc 3200 Mushkin Blue matched set with heatsinks
$400 Nvidia card

not exactly sure which nvidia one it is but its the $400 one,heh. I figure what the hell..i have a little bit of money and im getting a job this summer to make up for the cash, and theres no way in hell i was going to be able to run games that will be coming out with the system i have now. So im pretty pumped.

doesnt make sense.  the 400$ card is the ultra, which comes with 258 MB ram

yeah, the 6800 pci express is the nvidia card, only it cost under 300 bucks.  Not sure why they added a $400 card as well? Both cards need to be exactly the same or SLI won\'t work.

Where are you getting this PC from?  You gonna build it yourself?

personally wouldn\'t go PCI-E atm, its alittle dodgey and has a huge return rate on the cards....

whoa, we are in the middle of the transition between 32 bits PC to 64 bits PC.  As for me, I will wait till there are more software supports for 64 bits before I upgrade to a 64 bits motherboard and of course by then, faster CPU speed.

But it wouldn\'t hurt if you buy one now if your current computer is really slow in comparison such as 1 Ghz or less in term of CPU speed...

my bad about that video card thing,lol. Pretty much shows HOW illiterate i am when it comes to computer parts.

He stated in the beginning of his email about trying to get a $400 video card down in price a bit (doubtful) so i assumed the list didnt include the actual video card. So nix the last "$400 nvidia card"

im getting it from a friend who has a small computer shop in bakersfield, and hes going to build it for me. Very sweet deal.

The thing with this pci-E is that the guy who is selling it to me has one of his own. Granted i might be a little too naive in trusting him and havent looked up nearly enough, but well see. Im going to his place when i get it so ill be able to test it and everything in his presence. So if it sucks, hell see it.

don\'t worry about PCI-E, it\'s the future for all video cards so it can\'t hurt to get one now.

The price and performance isn\'t any different from AGP and that won\'t change anytime soon.  Actually a lot of PCI-E native cards are cheaper than their AGP counterparts because of the additional bridge chip they need.

Congrats on your purchase though.  Post some benchies so we can see how it all adds up.

PCI-E is to new to be a fully stable system atm. AGP isn\'t going anywhere, if you want PCI-E go for it, all i\'m saying is you may or may not end up with problems. The return rate is huge and pretty much all the cards are faulty. AGP on the other hand also has a large return rate yet nearly all the cards aren\'t.
