there wont be anything like they had for JPII. The huge funeral and the gathering of it had to do with what he did and his affect on other people, not as much as the fact that he was in a high position like the pope. This was the only pope funeral i was alive to remember for but im pretty sure they didnt do all the stuff because he was a pope.

I give the new guy couple years, heh. Like the 2 above, this is just a transition pope since it took like half a day for them to pick this guy. A lot of people are saying they dont like him because hes ultra-conservative. Like he helped made the changes in vatican 2 that made christianity uber liberal, then when JPII came in he wanted to reverse the changes and he became conservative....FLIP-FLOPPER!

I\'ll stick to my original stake of 6 months.

It\'s funny how you young people think 78 has one foot in the grave.  There are some very healthy 78 year olds.  Not saying this guy is, but with the spear of destiny in his back pocket, he could live to be 478.  :)  He was a Hitler Youth, remember.

This guy is really Emperor Palpatine.  With his deepset eyes - give him a black cloak and I promise you will see lightning shoot from his hands.

People say he looks all messed up and such, personally, I think he looks like a kind gentle man.  A little on the conservative side....but we could use a little more of that ;)

Interesting article:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=535&ncid=535&e=3&u=/ap/20050420/ap_on_re_eu/pope_s_university

The new pope was a professor at Universitat Tuebingen, where I attended for a few months in 1990.

BTW, he fled the university because it was becoming too liberal.  I felt right at home.  :)

when i first heard his name it sounded like joseph rap-singer! :p i agree with a few in here regarding his age...in a few years his health will start to fade....i realy didn\'t see what the big hush was about with the last pope\'s health...i mean these people are only human,..they can\'t expect them to live forever....
