Los Angeles (CA) - Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 game titles begin to appear in online game stores. EB Games offers pre-orders of PS3 titles with an estimated ship date of May 1 next year. Gamers should also expect a price hike of games that will initially sell for $60 and could even go as high as $80, according to sources.

Like hell I\'m gonna buy the system on launch day only to pay 60$ for the initial wave of mediocre games.

I\'m not doing anything illegal. :stick:

And by a lot, I just meant enough to enjoy the simple pleasures of gaming, without completely emptying my bank account. :)

The Super Nintendo had games in the $70 range.

The shitty thing is that we haven\'t had price jumps for at least a decade. In fact, the competition has lowered prices and led to Platinum Hits and budget titles. While those will continue, big name games are going to jack in price by ten, and conceivably twenty bucks.

Companies have tested the waters already, charging premiums for bonus packs or collector\'s editions of games like Halo 2, Mortal Kombat: Deception and Resident Evil 4.

Gamers have already shown they\'ll pay the extra bill. I\'m even guilty of it with MK: D.

So it sucks, but it looks like our expensive hobby is on track to get a little bit worse. Undercutting the competition is our only hope.

Welcome to my world.

Standard price down here is $100. The AUD is (approximately) worth around $0.75 USD. You do the math.

I second the Gamefly subscription.  I heard some time ago Netflix is considering renting out games too...

Either way I won\'t pay over $60 for a videogame.

Price must have raised thanks to higher hardware manufacturing costs.Probably the first wave of games will be that expensive until the cost is lowered.
I believe that this time the competition had the oposite effect. It is stronger than ever. The time frame release between the two isnt big considering the strong presence of both companies. So they both tried to create the most powerful hardware possible. MS doesnt want to offer a console significantly weaker than PS3 and Sony tries to make that difference signifigant. The pressure is high=More powerful=raised cost of production

I expect lower prices after some time.

Nowadays the average price is 59-69€ ($75-85) for new games on current consoles. I\'m prepared for a shock when they announce next-gen prices.

Game prices went up in Finland by a notch while ago, when it was decided that all games go through the same state-controller agency that inspects movies for content and age ratings. Pointless?

Amazing. We move to a cheaper medium (cartridges to cds / etc) and game prices are going up. Of course, the industry would say it\'s due to game\'s having larger budgets and having to make that money up, but come on, $80 bucks for a game now\'a\'days is outrageous.
