PS2 Slimline..Help needed.
« on: June 10, 2005, 04:22:13 PM »
Hi everyone im new on here and wondered if anyone can help me.

I bought my kids the PS2 slimline version last xmas along with quite a few PS2 games. This all appeared to be working ok until they tried to play some of their PS1 games on said console. The games played ok but nothing could be saved so as soon as it was turned off all data was lost (only PS1 games). We tried to put in memory cards from the PS! but it kept on telling us that there was no data. We knowthis isnt true because the memory cards were quite full of saved games.

Is this just a problem with the new PS2s or is the console Knackered. Any sensible answers gratefully received.

Your problem could be from 3rd party memory cards. Most likely you\'ll need to use a Sony PSX card..  If it is a sony psx card i have no idea why it wouldn\'t be working.. someone else may know.

You mean PS1 card. The PSX is actually an entirely different product. Don\'t make things confusing by throwing an "X" in there. ;)

But I agree, 3rd Party memory cards can have some issues.

I bought a cheapo ps1 memory card from HMV to use on the ps2 and that didin\'t work. I swapped it for an official sony one and that worked fine.

Well, sometimes there can be a save file turned corrupt. It\'s just guessing then which one it atually it is and then deleting it.

What happens with my ps2 with certain cards is that it wont read them if you stick them all the way in (this happens often with older cards). Start up the console with no game and go to the browser. Try sticking your memcard all the way in and then try taking it out as slowly as possible. *that sounded too dirty. blech*

If the memory card icon pops up then there you go. If not then i dont know what to tell you.

As said above:

PS1 card for PS1 games

PS2 card for PS2 games

Hope the PS3\'s harddrive will make this dilemma a thing of the past.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I suspected that it was due to the memory card not being an official PS card but wasnt too sure.

Ill try and track some down now for the kids. Looking forward to the PS3 coming out next year. Not sure how much itll be, probably around £300 in English money.
