Microsoft Sets Price for Xbox 360 Versions
Alex Pham
Microsoft Corp. said its next-generation Xbox 360 game console would cost $299 to $399 when the device is launched this holiday season.

The $299 version will come with a wired controller, but will not have the 20-gigabyte hard-disc drive, wireless controller, headset, Ethernet cable and wireless television remote control included in the $399 version.

So the $299 comes without backwards compatibility and Live support (MC or HDD required).

Its not 100% confirmed (although several people "in the know" says it is).

MS will have a conference in a little over 1 hour, we\'ll see then. :)

the more i think on it, this is flat out stupid, even for microsoft.

the non crippled one is going to cost 399$, so what?  so is PS3

it\'s gonna be expensive, but so is everything else.

this is a lame attempt to cater to the "casual" gamer.  hello m$!  they\'re not your target audience

like mm said, I can\'t believe that they are releasing a version without a HDD.  If every xbox360 dosen\'t have it then it won\'t be fully supported.  MS just lost something they had a leg up on Sony with.

bahahahaha.  So lil Johnny is probably getting the vanilla Xbox, then they gotta shell out $40 just to save games!?  I don\'t know how much they did their research but multiple versions of the same sh!t is lame.

well, from what i\'ve been reading on other forums, the LA times was incorrect, and the "core" version will have an internal hard drive

i\'m still doubtful, and what\'s the piont of making it detachable in the "non core" version"

i would never detach mine, just begging for a head crash or loss of data

The premium package includes an Xbox 360, a detachable 20-GB hard-drive, a wireless controller, faceplate, headset, a component HD AV cable, an Ethernet cable, and for a limited time, a remote controller.

The Core 360 System is stripped down in comparison. It includes an Xbox 360, one standard wired controller, a faceplate, and a standard AV cable. The $399 package is designed for the high-definition gaming era; the other is designed for a no-frills, current-gen set-up. Presumably both systems come with power cords, though Microsoft\'s press releases didn\'t actually include them.
