Best graphics card for a sh^tty computer

Ok, so I\'m left with this POS computer that I\'m borrowing from my uncle. The only thing I\'ve upgraded so far is the RAM. The computer is a 2.4GHz DELL Celeron with a gig of RAM. Anyway...basically I\'m looking for a graphics card that\'ll run W.O.W. very smoothly on this computer. I don\'t want a card that\'ll make my comp explode or something due to the crap CPU.

What suggestions would you guys have? What would be the best GPU (currently it has none) for this computer to be able to run W.O.W.? I don\'t want the screen ripping like a bitch when I\'m in a 40 player raid. W.O.W. is playable right now without a graphics card, but it\'s a nightmare.

yeah 6600GT or 6800 will do the trick.  It all depends on how much you are willing to spend.  I take it this machine has an AGP slot available?  

As some pre-builts don\'t have any option other than onboard video (which would suck in your case).

It all depends on how much you are willing to spend.

A few hundred is fine for me. Maybe I should just buy a new comp. :/ This one isn\'t mine anyway.

Forgot to mention.  If it\'s a Dell 2400 series PC then you\'re screwed.  They don\'t have an AGP or PCI-e slot.

Hmm...well I\'d have to do some research on the matter because I\'ve never built my own before. I hear it\'s a crapload cheaper to go this route. Any good sites that give some tips on this kind of thing? If not, I\'ll just look myself.

Here\'s  a config guide for a gaming pc from a Dutch pc site.

Prices might seem steep becuz of EU VAT taxes. Just look at the config chart to get an idea. I know companies like Asus also sell upgrade sets which consist of mobo, cpu, ram and such ; those usually come with manuals.

hey evi, do you live in the US?  If so prices will be much lower than most other countries.  Price around http://www.newegg.com and http://www.zipzoomfly.com are a few good places to get your parts.  Best Buy and Circuit City are rip-offs, don\'t even bother with them.

it\'s not too hard really, anyone with any technical skills and will-power can put one together.  And like you said, you save a boatload of cash and end up with an even better computer than a pre-built.  

Plus I enjoy building it as much as using it.  Gonna upgrade this fall again, probably only my CPU and Ram... I\'m really in need of 2 gigs for BF2.  And for 2 gigs to stay dual channel you really need 2 x 1 GB sticks.  Guess i\'ll just have to sell my current 2 x 512 on ebay or something.

A lot of newbies to building a rig make a wish list on newegg and post it for others to critique.  That way you know that the parts you are buying are compatible and worth the money.

To be honest, you can\'t build a cheaper comp than one Dell offers.  All you naysayers go ahead and try and I\'ll bet I can throw you a Dell system with similar specs for hundreds less.  (OS has to be legal, biotches!)  You can\'t beat cheap Korean parts bought in bulk.

But if you want quality parts and the ease of upgrading DIY!
