Man dreamcast was awesome. I can\'t believe a console like that could not last. Just shows how stupid gamers are.

And how bad Sega\'s marketing was.
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

Back in the early 1990s, I owned both Sega Genesis and SNES.  I don\'t think I  see any Sega CD or Sega 32X being mention or shown.  Although I do remember seeing Sega CD games in store but that it.

I remember Atari Jaguar on TV commercials and stuff.  In later years, I noticed Sega Saturn in commercials too.  Then N64 Mario game was being shown.  Around those time, the cool thing is we never bought any consoles whatsoever. I remember back in 1997, a girl told us to buy PlayStation instead because my brother thought about getting N64.  But we never bought any which is probably the right thing we did, especially not getting the N64.

Until I went to high school in 9th grade in 1998/1999, I made a cool friend and I can\'t really remember how but he has playStation games and I was into games too.  Then bam, I got my mom to bought me a PlayStation.  Then I remember the first game he let me borrowed was Final Fantasy VII.  And everything was history.:D

nothing.  Just bored, feels like sharing one  of my memories since I am bored and random memories (both good and bad) kept popping into my mind.  Believe me, being isolated inside the house most of the time for the past few years will do that to you.  And it make me realize a lot of things that I didn\'t thought about...

Isolated inside a house for the past few years ? I know I\'m not much of an outgoing type, but that just sounds extreme and thus eerie

Not the saint of gaming, but most people also forget that they was a strong company that lacked direction for awhile. By the time the DC came around, they was getting back on their feet. It was just simply to late. They had been killed by Sony\'s hype machine also known as crap-ass PS2 launch.

I could think of many reasons why DC died and didn\'t sell as well as PS2 beside just hype.

PS2 predecessor dominate the videogaming market heh, makes a lot of videogame owners especially PSOne owner eye the PS2.  Sega on the other hands, failed on many of their consoles attempt such as Sega CD, 32X, and even the true console Sega Saturn died a quick death that I don\'t see them in late 1998 and 1999.

Sega finally learned their mistake and sell a Dreamcast with a reasonable price tag unlike Saturn which was overpriced when its first launched at $400.  but you are right, its was too late.  they lost most of their loyal fans because of sega\'s past mistakes.

The next reason why PS2 is successful is because of DVD-Video playback.  Sure, the picture quality is below average, but most consumers doesn\'t care and its convenient to play DVD via a game machine so gamers don\'t need to buy a stand a lone dvd player at that time which cost them more money.  Sega DC lack the DVD-Video playback to lure gamers because they use their own GD-ROM format which is cheaper.

-backward compatible with their previous games.  With a large and popular games from PSOne, its a smart move Sony make to lure buyer to get PS2 so even if PS2 is a failed console, gamers won\'t feel as disappointed because gamers can use the ps2 to play PSOne games or use it to watch DVD Video.  I gave away my PSOne when I bought my PS2. I thought about giving it away to my cousin but i let my sister borrowed it because she wanted it for her kids.

of course the obvious reason for PS2 success is videogames.  Lots of 3rd party supports and lots of great games were made for PS2 than its competitor.  yeah, hype does play a role in it and i shamely admit that I was one of those gamers that actually buy the hype.

sure Sony doesn\'t need much to hype their consoles as the consumers does that for them.

Final Fantasy series is one of the reasons why I bought PS2 beside the one I mentioned above.  As funny as it may sounds, Square make quite a number of games for PS2, but the only game I bought is FFX.  Now, I am eyeing the FFXII as it maybe my next purchase.

Heh, look at the Dreamcast, it does resemble PlayStation One in many ways.  As if Sega wanted to hope gamers will fall for it but no thanks Sega.

unsure which PS2 launch you\'re talking about

I hope that is sarcasm. Because honestly, the games looked like crap and played like crap. Infact, the first game everyone thinks of with the PS2 is SSX and come on, it was average at best...

My DC launch was......
Soul Calibur
House of the Dead 2
Trickstyle
Blue Stinger
Sonic Adventure

PS2
SSX
Tekken Tag
Ridge Racer V
Unreal Tourament
Timesplitters
Summoner

I remember staying up more than 24 hours enjoying my DC on 9/9/99. It was a grand event. Then I remember the PS2 launch.. I go home, tried each game and said "this sucks", I even posted it on this very board. Know what happened? I put in a dvd movie and went to sleep within an hour of gettin\' my PS2. It was simply not that amazing. I had seen the 128bit generation done better already.
