US Company Claims 6.8GHz, 1TB RAM Laptop
« on: September 09, 2005, 11:03:39 AM »

Quote
US company Atom Chip Corporation unveiled a prototype notebook computer operating at 6.8GHz coupled with 1TB of main memory and 2TB of storage, with both data subsystems being comprised of non-volatile quantum-optical synchronous memory.

The company claims that the notebook prototype does not use a hard disc, instead it is based on "solid state AtomChip optoelectronics". A new "non-volatile Quantum-Optical" type of RAM is also used.

Optical non-volatile RAM

Atom Chip Corporation has developed and designed the new ultra-high density, ultra-high speed and extremely compact size non-volatile integrated optoelectronic Random Access Memory (NvIOpRAM). 3.2GB of non-volatile RAM are contained in one cubic millimeter. The Quantum-Optical technology is based on the discovered magnetic quantum-optical phenomenon in porous silicon, entitled after the name of its discoverer, the Gendlin Effect. The Quantum-Optical technology has a minimum sustained write speed of 6 gigabytes (GB) per second and a read speed of 8 GB per second.

In this NvIOpRAM the information is stored in holographic form and is recorded/read by a laser beam. The density of information of this memory is 128MB/square millimeter having the thickness of the recording media (array) of 20microns. 3.2GB of NvIOpSRAM are contained in one cubic millimeter. Also, this new Quantum-Optical technology allows NvIOpRAM to be built up to 256GB in one package.

The new non-volatile Quantum-Optical RAM is claimed to increase the speed of the system, since there is no need to refresh information after every cycle of reading of information, unlike regular RAM.

6.8GHz Processor

The company\'s "AtomChip Quantum II processor" runs at 6.8GHz and also features a 256MB on-board memory, and a very low consumption of electrical energy. The company does not provide more information about the architecture of the processor.

Atom Chip also claims this machine has "voice command" and also isa wireless device, too, with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPRS. Alternatively to Quantum II on board, the notebook will also run with four 1.7GHz Intel Pentium M processors, Atom Chip says. Running with a Quantum II inside, you get eight hours\' operation from a single charge. It can also get Windows XP Server 2002.

Although this "Miracle" device seems to be a project that work only on papers, Atom Chip Corporation plans to give a demonstration of it at CES, January 2006. The US company also gives a price for the notebook, rated at $8500-$15000 (depends on the completeness). For more information visit the company\'s website.

k, this was posted on another board and someone said it was false.  Not very credible I know, but it would take millions and millions of dollars to attempt what they\'re doing, and their official homepage looks like someone vommited on a keyboard while Dreamweaver happened to be open.

I see, reading it again, it claims to have a 1 TB of RAM, that\'s bull right there.  If a RAM at that size is 1 TB, then it be a hell expensive and not sure if the technology reach there yet...

but then again, you never know...anybody here knows for sure if this is real or fake?

1.There is no such thing as windows xp server 2002
2. 4 pentium M\'s would melt you legs off
3. only windows 2000 server and 2003 can support 4 procesors neither of which would be useful on a laptop
4. what no terabit network card
all of which equals fake and they took the link down

I thought it was true until I too thought about it. I never heard of this company and a lot of the specs sound sketchy. First off, the specs they hbave would be hot as hell and consume an incredible amount of energy. Secondly, it is definitely possible but our technology I don\'t think is there yet.

Yeah.  the most way off spec in my opinion is the 1 Terabyte of RAM.  That RAM is smaller than the RAM we use for our PC, which most now starting to run at 1 GB DDR, and the spec of this notebook RAM is 1024x that amount and yet smaller too.

If we can have a RAM that small with that space, it would be cool to use similiar technology as a magazine or memory card for digital still or video camera.

Ah then just for the sake of balance, I\'ll bet on not-fake. But it\'s looking purdy dodgy at the outset. If it wasn\'t fake they woulda done live demos with the press release.

6.8 GHZ would eat up battery life.  There\'s no point for that in a lappy.

Well, the press release says 8 hours with the Quantum II processor.

To those talking about 1TB RAM, apparently it\'s because they use the Quantum-Optical technology.... but whatevah. :)

Sounds pretty dodgy.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAPETIME!
(thanks Chizzy!)
