How do you clean a PS2?
« on: September 11, 2005, 06:04:41 PM »
its not a disc read error, but after every play my game freezes and takes a while to load, then it starts playing again. And it seems like the longer it gets in the game, the worse the freezing.

this only happens offline..never have it online. And it seems like the disc has a hard time spinning in the ps2 because it makes weird sounds, like skidding, or loading pretty hard. gets really old waiting after every play for the stupid game to start playing again.

The weird thing is is that MVP Baseball plays perfectly on it. But in all honesty..what are the odds of getting a defective madden?

so i really dont want to spend another 50 bucks on a madden (running the risk of having the same thign happen, and having to deal with the retards here on returning an opened game). Or try cleaning the PS2 without messing up the lens er something stupid.

so whats the right way to clean it?

Put it in your freezer.

Have you tried vertical/horizontal positions on the ps2?

just with madden 06 and tribes ariel assault that i got a few years back..

all the other games work (all gta\'s, mvp 2005 and 2004, madden 05, socom, etc.)

going to get a friend to lend me their madden and see if it does the same thing.

edit: i guess people i know only have the gamecube and PC versions. But i really think its the ps2. it makes the same general sounds with madden 05, but its not as loud and it doesnt freeze. Not sure if theres just a lot of info in 06 for the piece of crap to load? itll 100% of the time freeze right before it gets to the cutscene on 3rd down of the teams lineing up.

I just really dont want to buy a new ps2..not that ill be buying a ps3 any time soon, even after it comes out.

what?  How did your PS2 died?  That sucks!!!

One time I remember there is a buzzing sound coming out of my PS2.  I finally found out that it was coming from the backside of the PS2.  There is a bug stuck on the PS2\'s fan and as the fan started to spin, it create a buzzing sound.  As the console is turned off, I took the bug out of the fan and turn the console on and the buzzing sound is gone.

Also, the ventilation grill on the front bottom of the ps2 can be dusty every few months.  So if you have time, get a vacuum blower and suck the dirt off the vent so it won\'t clogged it and heat can escape if the ps2 gets too hot.  But again, i know its to late for these suggestions.  But i am not sure if that what causes your ps2 to died or its maybe something else.

it was from when the ps2 first came out so i guess it was just a matter of time. I cleaned the vents, i took the ps2 apart and dusted it, but it didnt work. Technically it died before but then i sent it to sony and they fixed it (cuz it was an old model number)

i got a good paycheck before i quit work so it wont hurt me too bad to get a new one. The sounds were more like there was friction from the cd to the disc spinning, but im not sure if that was it. But i tried MVP and it froze on loadup so that pretty much showed me that it died

btw, Sony doesn\'t sell the big PS2s. You\'ll have to do some searching and hope you don\'t end up with another defective one.

i ended up getting a used slim one and gave my old network adapter to a friend. I couldve gotten a used big PS2 but taht was only 10 bucks less than a slim so i just went with it. But madden works perfectly now, and i got the 6 month warrenty so if it does crap out i wont be screwed.

I think it\'s disaligned, but I just don\'t know. Help me!
