Given the dimensions and picture quality, I\'ve come down to these two choices. I\'d like you guys to either help me pick one or tell me I\'m looking at something I will regret buying.

I\'m looking to spend around $3000 and upgrade my satellite to HD down the road.

JVC $2469 52" D-ILA chip proj. TV HD52G886 720p upconversion

http://www.brightandsleek.com/JVC_HD52G886_HD_52G886_p/hd52g886.htm

JVC $2849 56" HD-ILA HDTV 1280x720 HD56G786

http://pac-2000.com/hd56g786.html

The weird thing is I went through two stores and selected my favorite from each and it turned out after the fact to be so damn similar...

Never seen either one of them.

Size of the room?

Size of the screen is recommended to be half the distance you are away from it.

10\' away?  60" screen.

Always go with as big as you can afford to go if you watch movies.

And 3 grand isn\'t much.  Just think of how long you will use it?  What, probably 10 years?  You have any habits that cost you less than 10 bucks a month?

Just bought a 42" Panasonic and I could not be happier. OK, I could be happier but it has nothing to do with TVs. ;)

I agree with Vid. Go as big as you can and don\'t skimp on the things you want because you\'ll want to replace before you know it. I spent a lot of time making sure I finally bought something I really wanted.

Either way you go good luck!

Ed Milbourn reporting on 1080P at CEDIA 2005

"But DLP 1080p, while very good, was not the best. The best by any measurement was the SONY SXRD technology. SXRD is essentially a highly refined version of LcOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) technology. Sony has (evidently) succeeded is overcoming the LcOS very critical production challenges to offer a very high performance and cost-effective design, letting all the inherent benefits of LcOS technology to be showcased. "

Sony\'s going to make a killing off this if it\'s every bit as good as they say it is.

That is a nice freaking set, but it\'s quite a bit more expensive.

I think the TV that shoots the background light out is pretty sweet.

Its at least a good idea.

I hate arguing about this stuff but many TV snobs and videophiles will tell you it\'s a horrible thing.

It looks cool to the common consumer but it throws color balance out of whack.  If there\'s a yellow car traveling on the road on screen, and the background light turns yellow, your perception of the color gets changed, mainly because your surroundings are the same color.  A yellow car in a yellow room in a yellow su... :gay:

You\'re right as always, I was just in giddy-mode after reading up on the technology.  Never a great idea to buy a 1st gen anything anyway.

Yeah, I\'m not actually sure how well it works.

But when performing well- I imagine it would be an awesome effect.

For the 6" loss in size and the extra $1,500 out of my price range, I can\'t really consider Sony\'s upcoming set. Plus, I want it noooow.

I found some good reviews for the 56" set online, even if half of them were by JVC employees in disguise, heh. I\'ll probably order it from Best Buy friday.

A light behind the screen is great.  I did it for years.  Only thing is it needs to be neutral.  It makes tv viewing much easier on the eyes.

I wouldn\'t mind an LCD tv. I\'m stuck with cheap ass CRT tvs. But on my laptop I have a TV tuner so its almost like having an LCD tv :)
