Water-Cooling
« on: October 24, 2005, 09:06:40 PM »
I\'ve been torn between installing a water-cooling system in my PC, or just sticking with fans and a heatsink.  I don\'t even know why I bother asking, cause I know your all going to say its pointless to have watercooling unless you overclock your PC, but I figured I\'d ask anyway.  The only stupid questions are the ones that arent asked.  I\'m probably not going to do it, mainly because my friend strongly advised against it, he\'s worried about leaking and such, and I don\'t disagree.  I\'m more interested to see what you guys think about water-cooling, god knows it\'s probably way beyond my skill level to even begin to understand how to install one, but I\'ve considered an alternate route.  There are cases, such as the Thermaltake Tai Chi that come with water-coolers pre-installed.  Again though, I know very little about water-cooling, and if there\'s daily or weekly mantainence involved it\'s definitely out of the picture.

Again, I know i\'m going to be bashed, but I just want honest opinions on watercooling.  Thank you.

I\'m not gonna bash you.  If I needed pure peace & quiet I\'d turn to a water cooled setup.  Things like the Zalman Reserator is gaining in popularity among the Media Center crowd.

You don\'t sound like a raging overclocker though so I bet you don\'t need it.  An aftermarket Thermaltake or Zalman HSF will suffice for most gamers.  They\'re getting pretty f*cking biig btw:

plus you have to change out the coolant every so often, pain in the ass if you ask me.  Just get good air cooling like THX mentioned and everything will be gravy

While we\'re on the subject hurricane, you may wanna rethink doing a non-SLI setup.  Bit Tech did a test of the latest cards and FEAR makes use of SLI and you can definitely see the difference:

A couple of 7800GTs shouldn\'t break the bank if you can afford it.

I agree, and I am switching to SLI simply because it is proven and the availability of parts.

wow mm is being particularly helpful today. :D  NVTweak is another option.

Basically go to where you switch your resolution, click the advanced button, then the GeForce Tab and there should be a Clock Frequencies option.  Make sure you card is adequately cooled.
