Cyprus wants to get its flag right after 45 years

NICOSIA (Reuters) - Cyprus says independent minded flag makers have been adding their own creative touches to the national flag for 45 years and it\'s time to get it right.

Cyprus\'s white flag should have a copper-colored map of the guitar-shaped island in the center, above two olive branches.

But Andreas Christou, director of the government supplies office, says: "It seems every department has been going to local manufacturers and some like the colors lighter, some darker. They like the map bigger or smaller."

Now, flags flying the wrong color will be replaced by ones with the correct shade of copper, he told the daily Cyprus Mail newspaper.

That shade is neither yellow, nor orange nor red but copper, and to be precise, 144-C, to reflect the Mediterranean island\'s historical attachment to the metal.

Cyprus was famed from antiquity for its rich resources of copper and is believed to have given its name to the Latin word for the metal, "Cuprum," or "ore of Cyprus."

I think its kind of misinterpreted.We always had one flag and we all knew the same flag.

What it said above isnt exactly what it seems.They are refered to the fact that we tend to present it with lighter or darker colors.

google it and you ll see what he ment.Sometimes some people may present it with different variation of the same colors.

Its a map and 2 olive branches on a white backround.If you ask someone to draw an olive branch and a map of a country he will use a different variation of the same colors than someone else.

Thats why you see variations.Not because we dont know the color of our flag.Its not like other flags with more distinct characteristics and colors as for example the USA flag which has a certain vivid red and blue colors and some white.

Copper isnt a specific color and the branches are small green objects on the map.They are too general

That is an interesting flag...

Everybody has that problem I\'d think.

I see flags all the time with different tones of blue, some darker and some lighter.

Our flag in Eurocolor.
Blue: C: 100% M: 50% Y: 10%
Yellow: C: 0% M: 20% Y: 100%
