[PPPS:] I feel fantastic and I\'m still alive.
[FINAL THOUGHT:] While you\'re dying I\'ll be still alive.

any job where you work overnight is considered the grave yard shift

A murderous riddle
« Reply #21 on: November 15, 2005, 09:15:30 PM »
My thoughts:

I think she killed herself out of self hate that she betrayed her boyfriend with a cop.  She didn\'t know the cop was in a relationship and she recently found out he was married.  She could\'ve found out through Donny since he seems like the old man that fiddles and snoops around discreetly.  I wouldn\'t put it past him that he might use his infatuation with his neighbor as an excuse to look out for her and find out the scoop about who she plans on breaking up with her boyfriend over.

Edit:  Read more into it, and here\'s more thoughts.

I really think the first clue is her speaking, but not about herself, the person who was murdered, but about someone else.  She says

Like an artist, she does things lovingly... she killed herself out of love to be like a Shakespear novel.   She\'s probably describing the officer\'s wife in the context about how much she knows her.  The wife might have been her friend or someone she knew.

Note also, for whoever mentioned that the  conversation over dinner seemed strange, that it didn\'t actually happen.  He said usually, that\'s what would be the norm.

So it could be both Donny`s and the cop`s wife work.

Also bare in mind that the murderer is calm. The murderer liked what he/she did.Donny might have helped the wife kill the girl because she believed the cop was cheating on her with that girl. But Donny could  be the cop`s wife`s lover. He is trying to throw the blame on the cop too so both he and her could run away with it

Anyway, it\'s confirmed that your answer is correct now.  When I posted your answer on a different forum, the topic starter responded this:

"Clever and well thought out. One thing though, the author of the poem did say there are now grudges unknown to the audience and all the info needed to solve the mystery is within the clues. So to say something like "maybe she know about autopsy" i believe is not how to answer the riddle."

So you were right that Donny & the Cop\'s wife are the one behind this.

This is my response to him:

Oh, thanks. But I didn\'t really figure it out. A member from a different forum did.

yeah, when you wrote "The writers have told us that all the info is in the text and there are no previous motives not revealed in there." I kind of realized that is actually the real hint there, not add it up hint which isn\'t really much of a helpful hint...The authors are actually clever how they give out the hint and even the mystery story is really slick too.

You make interesting points there, but I am kind of lost what you meant though.  When you say she didn\'t know the cop was married, I doubt that since he\'s quite old actually.  I would assume she\'s in her early 20s and he in his 40s.  So by that age, one should be skeptical if he is married and have kids yet.

Really interesting and good points too.  Especially the conversation between the cop and the wife never took place.  I didn\'t thought about it before.  That could be true.  I am going post that later in the other forum to see how the topic starter respond to that.

You\'ll be surprised how naive women can be.  I just had a girl in my school go through that same shit, been with her BF a year and JUST found out he was married.  It caused enough sorrow so I guess for someone it may lead to suicide.

Can we check the answer now?

Okay, okay.  It\'s official.  The writers themselve, not the topic starter from the other forum finally have revealed who is the real killer...and a surprising strange twist that is.

I thought for sure it was Donny and the Cop\'s wife after what Unicron said really makes sense.

Anyway, the writers have finally given us the Final Hint:

[sp]Its easy as 1, 2, 3[/sp]

and the real killer is...i am just going to copy and paste what the writers wrote.

THE ANSWER!

As said by the author:
"The way the mystery was written was to have several conflicting points, so that everyone was guilty. This was because there were only the following suspects:

-The cop
-Bunny (the boyfriend)
-Donny
-Mrs. Foster
-Herbert Foster

Naturally with all the users that participated, there was going to be an issue if we simply asked *who* did it, since all five people would be guessed quickly. Motive was thrown out because of all the confusing evidence, so we decided to ask for HOW you came to that conclusion instead.

Let\'s refresh our memories of the additional hints we gave later on:
"Add it all up"
"It\'s easy as 1, 2, 3"

So here we go... time to pick apart the thing that drove you all nuts for half a month!

We were hoping someone out there would think along the lines of numbers & colors, rather than speculation like "so & so having an affair with so & so..." - I guess nobody is as familiar with this style of writing as I thought they would be. The clues are just a lot of writing that doesn\'t need to be there, so it is.

Colors:
Blue sirens (clue 2)
Red sirens (clue 2)
Yellow hair in its place (clue 2)
White sheets (clue 2)
Violet interior (clue 4)
Mrs. Fosters green dress (clue 6)
Red with anger (clue 8]
Total: 7

Numbers:
6 PM in the evening (clue 2)
20 years on the force (clue 2)
Apartment 74 (clue 3)
3 AM visits (clue 7)
Total: 4

You could add up the numbers, but you are left with 103 which leads to nothing. Instead, we wanted someone to put together the 7 and the 4, and say woah "Apartment 74".  That\'s where Bunny lives. So yes, it gives you the answer, albeit an abstract one.

Who knows but... sorry we made it so hard"

So, it\'s way over my head too.  Let me clear up somethings too, So the first Hint they gave:  Add it all Up is actually a hint, but i thought the real hint was "there are no motives not revealed in there, is all in the text..."   I was wrong there.  Edit: actually, by text I think they mean the "text" from the color, which could be a hint too.

Oh my goodness...I just realized Jar O Pickles is more intelligent that I thought.  He\'s the quiet type of person.  But when he did chime in, wow, what do you know.  He gave very good inputs  And he got the answer right that it was the boyfriend, even though he didn\'t really figure out the total times the color were mention or the numbers or the clue like none of us did.  But he was right it was the boyfriend and reading his post again, he did give a good reasoning why...

Beside Jar O Pickles, Blade, and MPTheory also guesses it was the boyfriend too although along with the neigbhors.  That time when I read their answers, I thought, nah, it couldn\'t be the boyfriend and the neighbors.  But it turns out, they were quite right it was the boyfriend.

Interesting twist it is...
