I bought the nvidia geforce 5500 to split my display in the studio...so I can run reason & ableton on 2 screens... I got it for $70 after discounts... before I install it, any thoughts? I don\'t need hardcore graphics power, just enought to run 2 monitors....thanks for any feedback.

That card is more than fine for dual-head. Only concern is download the latest drivers from nVidia\'s site and install those rather than the ones that are on the CD.

Make sure you download them to your HD first before you switch cards. Browsing the net with the standard graphics driver is a pita.

How\'s Reason btw, what do you use it for? I hear a lot about it on other forums.

reason is the shit man... imagine an endless rack of mixers, samplers, synths, drum machines and loop players with rack-mounted delays, reverbs, etc...you can arrange them however you want, and hit tab to turn it around to route cables...endless possibilities...also slaves to cubase/ableton flawlessly.

speaking of updating my driver.

I have this 3+ years old ATI Radeon 8500 LE graphic card, I wants to know how do I updated it?

I check Ati website, but i couldn\'t find the driver update for that card\'s model...

where exactly do i need to go to find the driver\'s update?

Well, as a mild graphics card enthusiast I\'ll say the Geforce FX5500 isn\'t very good as a \'graphics card\'.

If it can keep up 85hz and above on dual display for your purposes, I guess it\'s ok.

Another pluspoint could be that the card is not loud ... or is it ? Since the core clock is low it probably features a nice modest cooler.

70 usd sounds about right. The card retails in Europe for 55 euros which is i think about the same.

well it was $104 with -$20 rebate, and we had a card for an additional 12% off...and at $.85 per Euro....whee!

No need for a graphic blazer..glad it\'s quiet, tho...as it is in a recording studio.

now to build a desk to hold 2 monitors...

Maybe you should have looked around a bit more before buying ;

there are some nice GF5500\'s and GF6600 cards with pure fanless heatsink/pipe cooling. They\'re 100% inaudible.

2 heavy CRT\'s or light LCD\'s ?

Try an oxygen 8 from m-audio. cheep & has knobs to assign....

2 heavy CRT\'s... for now. Just using my 19" with an old 17" I had laying around...

I just got done installing it - works like a charm... thanks to THX for the driver advice...I had no problems with it at all.

Reason is a very cool program. You create your rack [and just like CHIZZ said] with whatever you want and however much of it you want. You can even flip it around and "virtually" plug everything in the way you want it. I\'ve only used it with DP and love it.
