I was gonna get me a hdtv but decided to look into some projectors. This is right up my price range. Good buy or not?

Looks like their site is down for now.  What kind of projector was it?

This list is a good reference of what are your best bets today:

http://www.projectorcentral.com/home-theater-multimedia-projectors.htm

If your budget is less than $1k go for an Infocus 4805.  If it\'s less than $2k check out a Panasonic AE900 or Sanyo Z4.

Remember, any of these >$3k projectros will have to be in a light-controlled room so you can view the picture at all.  That\'s why they\'re perfect for basements.

He is probably talking about the 800$ rear projection they have.

I don\'t know much about it.  I just know CRTs are going to be boat anchors by this time next year.

My wife and I are putting together a "movie room" and we are looking at the Infocus projector.  I am not an expert on current lumens and resolution standards, but the Infocus sounds like what we need at a decent price.

Will it do the PS3 justice?

HD looks great on it even though it\'s only a 16:9 SD projector.  The onboard Faroudja DCDi vid processor works wonders too.  It will make your friends say "I shoulda gotten a projector!" like it did mine.

I think it\'s the perfect entry level pj at the moment.  Handles HD marvelously, and you can sit on this one until prices drop even further for a decent 720p/1080p display that has good CR and lumen output.  Every year they get better & better.

I just picked up an HDTV. Won\'t be arriving till Monday but I\'m stoked.

I\'m starting to hear positive things about these HDTV projectors. I believe there are a few DLP projector models out there but they\'re very expensive.

You can get it on Crutchfiled for 1k, even less if you get a refurb, which work just as good.

I agree.  Go HD if you can.

the good thing about DLP chip is that its offer better picture quality than LCD projector, but it\'s only a single chip while LCD are 3 panels.

If you don\'t mind LCD, check out panasonic AE700U  I believe that\'s the model for the projector.  It\'s an HD projector with 1280 x 720p 3 panels LCD , and it have an HDMI input.

This projector uses this smooth screen technology to reduce the screen door effects by 4 folds and it have a pleasing contrast ratio of 2,000:1.

Probably the only concern here is that it have an MSRP of $2,999.  But you can get it for less than that.

Every professional review prefers the image quality of the 4805 to one with less contrast but more resolution such as the Pana 700 or even Z3.

They are worth a look if you can demo em but like I said before the 4805 is worth every penny.  If you shell out for one of the LCD pjs described above, you\'re gonna be sorry when the 2006 models come out.

The 2005 Pana 900 and Sanzo Z4 models are the only ones that look better than the 4805, but you\'ll be paying at least twice as much.

edit- Q forgot to mention the pj specialist stores.  Go to projectorcenter.com or projectorpeople.com, give em a call and ask for a price quote.  They should give you a figure below a grand.  Plus new ones come with a 2 yr warranty.
