render time

http://www.flarg.com/rendering_statistics.html

Pretty interesting stats on the render farm used for Shrek..  Most all is geek talk and I don\'t understand much, but some of the stats were pretty mind blowing.

1 hour/frame average rendering time
2 GB/frame, 1 GB/layer textures

I dunno. It\'s probably there somewhere.  Look at how many computers they were using. Pretty cool.

1 hour per frame seems ok on that kind of hardware at the resolutions I imagine they work with.  With 2000 comps (hence, 2k frames made per hour) they can render over a minute of movie per hour.... but of course, the rendering is probably the easiest stage :p

I\'ve had 8 hour renders on just the POS crap I monkeyed around with. Just throw in some raytraced reflections, and a depth of field effect and you\'re going to bed.

hah, and people think computars are unecessesarily fast for today.

The day you can open a 3D render or video project and edit, save, and close it as fast as a Word document I think we\'re closer to becoming cyborg crab people.

Interesting as I don\'t understand thost stats.

Hey, if Shrek were being rendered in today\'s computer, how long do you guys think it will take compare to back then?
