Who cares about the environment? Global warming? Hello? the earth does go through climate changes - with or without the involvement of human beings. Despite what some people may think, Karl Rove does not have a device that can control the weather, cause tsunamis or earthquakes.
On to the topic...
Even if this does go to the SCotUS and if by some chance abortion is ruled not a Constitutional right, states can easily make it a state law that abortion in their state is legal. States have the final say - not the Federal Government in matters such as this which are not protected by the Constitution.
I wasn\'t even thinking about global warming when I mentioned environmental protection. I was thinking about our tougher drinking water standards and pollution regulation. But since you brought up global warming, I must say I disagree with your assertion that this is simply a natural event. That sounds very much like a layman\'s wishful thinking. It\'s worth mentioning that a vast majority of respected scientists also disagree with you.
Regarding the abortion decision, I agree that some issues should be decided by states, but not this one. Setting aside ideological beliefs, this is an important public health issue. Outlawing clinical abortions will result in an explosion of harmful illegal abortions. For many girls who get knocked up, this is not an optional procedure like a piercing or a tattoo. They\'re going to do it one way or another. If we federally regulate other issues of medical treatment, why not this one? Why should we risk the safety of women who have the misfortune to live in a backwards state?
