Did you watch the Daily Show last night?  there was a guy on there who wrote a book about stories in the bible and how they changed. How before the printing press the bibles were all done by hand and how no two books are the same.

It\'s just a book.

Women were created out of Adam\'s rib. Another proof that women are evil.

a book of truth....it\'s true that there are many versions of the bible,..only because so many have tried to translate it to english..but they all basically say the same thing.....don\'t get me started on the big bang theory...

Big Bang Theory was actually first thought of by a Catholic priest and not a scientist.

Quote
In 1927, the Belgian priest Georges Lemaître was the first to propose that the universe began with the explosion of a primeval atom. His proposal came after observing the red shift in distant nebulas by astronomers to a model of the universe based on relativity. Years later, Edwin Hubble found experimental evidence to help justify Lemaître\'s theory. He found that distant galaxies in every direction are going away from us with speeds proportional to their distance.

i will take a theory with pieces missing over a book. I find it funny that christians bitch at people to have faith when you have to blindly follow a god, but when it comes to believing science and what it has so far then were blind for not believing the truth and only following a "theory" with some big scientific facts.

and clips, im not 100% sure if "dont get me started on the big bang theory" means that u think its bs. So i wont get into why saying a theory is bs doesnt work.

Sorry but..theres other earth\'s. Look at all the stars in the universe, and imagine planets around all those stars. Theres going to be a pretty good chance one of those happened to hold life, and if they have a brain like ours theyre going to question why theyre there, what made them, and what happens when they die.

The Big Bang Theory is parallel with that of "Let There Be Light". ie everything from nothing.  Hence why I mentioned Georges Lemaître.

I think you\'ll find that most Christians believe in science as much as atheists and agnostics. It\'s the fundamentalists that get most peoples\' attention. It\'s up to you to realize that they are fewer than tolerant Christians.

ugh, scientology

i know they are. But what separates us is christians believe god created the scientific facts. (i.e. big bang/evolution..assuming theyre true).

btw..i think scientists have the core of things, like evolution and the big bang. Theyre just missing a lot of facts in between that are difficult to fill in.

Iv just experienced, going to catholic school, that whenever i ask too hard of a question about god they said "well..thats where faith comes in." Whereas if i asked a scientist/professor a question they cant answer they say "we havent figured that out yet." Both answer nothing, but i accept the professor\'s answer more.

Because the "we haven\'t figured that out yet" means they are working on figuring it out whereas the Christians keep saying "have faith". One goes out to find knowledge while the other lives under their rock.

edit: and iv noticed..any time weve debated this theres someone that says "wow..so much ignorance in this thread"..i know how christianity started, i know how islam started. Sorry, but i dont believe it. call me ignorant? your just as ignorant as i am. You dont know shit. I dont know shit. The difference is you think you know shit.

it really is amazing...how people think,...we\'ve had this conversation many times and ultimately, nobody can say for sure what the true outcome is....i truly believe that there are other signs of life in the universe....too many things have happened in my life to prove that he does exist...i\'ll go into my latest story...i\'ve been in georgia for about six months now...i\'ve been applyin for jobs since i\'ve been down here and nothing....as soon as my last unemployment check drops...guess what? a week later i got a job at coco-cola doin the same thing i was doin in jersey...:fro:...coincidence?...i think not...

too many people around the world believe in what the bible say,...when you have faith, he will supply those needs for you...you might not hit the lottery or things of that nature...*sheeit people who do have money still are not happy*...but he will provide your needs....think about the big bang theory...big explosion...molten lava rocks...then the earth cools down then...bada boom bada bing...humans appear!......humans cannot come from just that...

i know you\'ll say but how can somebody walk on water yada yada yada....go ahead and laugh but that is where faith comes in...and it\'s not just people sayin that in the u.s. it\'s a world wide thing...people in africa believe it...europe,..russia, iraq, iran...(yes regardless of what you see on tv it\'s true)..libya,...everywhere...i can respect how others feel, but you gotta think about what scientists are...human...the choose to believe science and nothing else....somebody created us imo and there can be no other explanation...

humans didnt appear after the big bang. MILLIONS of years went by. I forgot the analogy but if the earth\'s history was 24 hours, we would only be part of like 2 of those hours. I might be a little off but were some super small fraction of the history of the earth (let alone the universe). Theres some crazy stuff to be learned. We pretty much figured out contracting muscles/movement started with sponges. So in a sense, you look at a sponge and thats what gave us the ability to move our arms and legs.

shit..the big bang was only the wayyy beginning. From the big bang came millions of galaxies. on those galaxies are billions of stars (stars that have their own spiffy ways of being created) and around those stars are planets. Earth got lucky and had water and life. EVERYTHING happened under water then they grew legs (obviously not overnight) to get on land. etc. You might think its farfetched, but it makes sense to me. But theres obviously the question "how did the big bang start." Sure as hell wont figure that out in my lifetime.

im not really sure of your past/the whole story, but maybe you got a job doing the same thing because of your resume? or did they not know u did that same job before?

And i dont like the \'if you have faith, hell supply the needs for you.\' its kinda annoying IMO that a god would make it so hard to believe in him that if you pass the test of believing then hell help you out.

My geography teacher did something like that. He used like 2 20 meter tapes or something like that (it was a lot) and humans were on the earth for only a few millimeters.
