This remind me of an incident last month, where my brother took me to his friend\'s house to help hook up a DVD burner to his HP computer.
I was surprised to see those little speakers around his Sony\'s plasma TV. Those little Bose speakers were hook up to the Bose\'s receiver. And his Sony plasma\'s TV and his HP computer were all hooked up to Bose\'s Receiver too. Sigh...
I guess great marketing ploy sure does play a great role here. Not to mention, those salesman does have some parts to blame too in my opinion.
I also noticed that he connected both his DVD players to his plasma TV via composite video connections, and his plasma TV was in wide zoom (stretch mode) by default for both 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio. So are both his dvd players (one is a dvd/vcr combo), which were output in 4:3 letterbox mode...wow...quite a surprise...
The second time I came to his house, me being me being an audio/video enthusiast couldn\'t help but output both his dvd players in 16:9 mode for his widescreen plasma TV. Then I choose Full mode for both his 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio on the TV. Then i also output one of his dvd players to 0 IRE for black level since ATSC TV black level is properly at 0 IRE while U.S. NTSC starts off at 7.5 IRE. I notice his 42" plasma is EDTV, but that\'s shouldn\'t be a problem but Sony isn\'t a good brand when it comes to plasma type TV. Their black levels aren\'t as good as panasonic or pioneer\'s plasma which you get better bang for the bucks in comparison. I also try to adjust the video menu on his TV, but I suppose he probably switch it back to Vivid mode which is the annoying torch mode after I leave...
