PS2 problem
« on: April 02, 2006, 04:49:34 PM »
i tried the freezer..

but it started with madden. It started freezing between every play but after about 30-40 seconds it would start back up, making the game tedious and boring. But i thought it was madden because i heard other people had the same problem, and shadow of the collusus worked perfectly on it.

Now, i play god of war and its not bad at all, but theres a few times where the "Loading..." comes up in the bottom right corner..i dont think its normal but it didnt hinder playing the game since the loading times were never that long.

BUT, now i played mvp 2005 and it starts out with no problems, but by the 5th er 6th inning it starts freezing between every batter, it takes forever to load the \'warm up pitchers\' screen, etc (it probably takes 5 minutes to warm a pitcher up, visit the mound, and then sub the pitcher..which usually takes about 10 seconds). An issue identical to madden. Iv never had a problem with mvp until now (i havent played mvp since baseball season ended last year..then started playing it again since its baseball season), and my ps2 is relatively new..it was used, but the 6th month warranty expired so i cant return it.

Is it dirty? dieing?

I know the loading issue on God of War is normal.  Happens to me too.

Not sure if a good lens cleaning or adjustment would help you out, but from the sounds of it either:

1) Your disc drive has been working heavily from previous use and your unit is showing its age
2) Your PS2 is getting too hot.  Need better ventilation, fan is dying, or it needs a good dusting with a can of compressed air

I have to say, 6 month warranty on a used system sounds pretty good, especially when most new equipment is just for 90 days.  Did you get an extended warranty?

i got it kind of blindly because i just wanted a ps2 and get out. was only 11 bucks, but i got the pamphlet thing and i have to call the number, convince them that my problem warrents a return, get an authorization code, and then go to the store to return it. Bought it sept. 13th..

not sure if that counts as an extended warranty..or if i can get one now that the things passed.

I think i can live without a ps2 though..between rainbow six, farcry, battlefield, and soon ghost recon i have enough games. Just sucks not having any sports games since i dont buy those on pc.

You really can\'t complain for 11 bucks.  Do the usual, air, clean.  If that doesn\'t work, 11 bucks isn\'t worth your time in trying to get a return/new one.  Open \'er up and use any one of the many (many!) guides on the net out there that tell you how to fix your ps2\'s most common issues and clean it really well.

And if you were going to get a PS3, well, you can always just wait for that :p
