what is fema thinking?
« on: April 21, 2006, 08:44:00 PM »
Somebody please tell me what they are thinking?...the majority of these people are homeless and now you expect them to pay those funds back? i swear some people in the gov\'t just don\'t use their brain,...regardless of the fraudulent cases or overpayments you can\'t expect people to pay these absurb amounts of money back...pathetic...

I agree.  THey should definitely get the money back.

I\'m guessing you didn\'t read the first line.  Or perhaps any of it.

"Thousands of Gulf Coast residents have been told they must repay millions of dollars in federal Hurricane Katrina benefits that were excessive or, in some cases, fraudulent. "

THey aren\'t asking for money back the people deserve. THey are asking for money back that insurance companies repaid and/or claims that were just plain screwed up.

THis is money these people should have been giving back anyway.

i definitly agree with the fraud thing but not the people they screwed up with.

\'hey we screwed up and now you\'re in trouble..give us our money back because we\'re too retarded to do our job right.\' just because they didnt NEED the money doesnt mean they couldnt use it. Im middle class and relatively comfortable with money, but my family could use some money. Would be generous and humane of them to give the extra money to people that are desperate? of course. But i guarantee the people that got extra money only got enough in the first place to get back on their feet, only to struggle with funds for the next 8 years..now they have the extra money.

Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

=So you are saying that because they screwed up and sent checks to some people that weren\'t supposed to get checks, that they shouldn\'t get the money back?

seriously?

IF the IRS sends you two checks for your tax refund, what do you do with the extra check?

I\'m not saying I\'d send it back, but I certainly wouldn\'t use the money.  I\'d just put it in a savings account and let it sit.

what if you accidently paid your electric bill twice.  Say you sent a check in and forgot you get the bill paid automatically through wire transfer.  Do you expect the electric company to not give you credit and say F off it\'s your own fault for paying it twice.

yerp. I guarantee you wont do it a second time. But its also different for a person paying the IRS, compared to FEMA who already fucked up, just to fuck up again with this money thing.

and isnt putting it in a savings account/spending it doing the same thing? you\'re keeping it so you can eventually spend it..either way they wouldnt be getting it back. And who says people spent the extra money? maybe they did put it in their savings account. But a lot of them probably did spend it, because like i said before, just because they got money to get back on their feet doesnt mean they arent desperate for money anymore.

i agree with viper,...those people that they screwed up givin\' money to, they just need eat that lost,...those people probably used that money for whatever reason, but those that were fraudulent with the fema funds?...i feel they should punish them to the full extent of the law...i remember seeing on the news even way before this report came out that were already cracking down on those people who fraudulently accepted fema funds...
