A crappy complaint I know, but it seems like it\'s gonna be crunchtime for our wallets soon.  Sorta like the Perfect Storm for gamers.  There\'ll be so many choices out we\'ll be wondering where to drop our dough.

my dual core opteron @ 2.4 and my 7900gt are gonna have to hold me over for at least a couple more years... i\'ve been steady upgrading for the past 2 years or so and I think it\'s time to hold tight...

that and with a few kids and a new house to work on I hardly play any games anymore.  I\'ll wait till vista is established and all the latest games utilize DX10

I can\'t blame people for jumping on conroe though... i\'m still curious to see what AMD is gonna counter with (after AM2)

I\'d be more interested in the ps3 if I had an HD set... chances are I will in a year or two.  If I can get the premium version for 449-499 I *MIGHT* think about getting one

You have already seen that the Core 2 Extreme X6800 outperforms AMD\'s fastest processor, the FX-62, by a wide margin.  This is exacerbated by the fact that the $316 E6600, running at 2.4GHz, outperforms the FX-62 in almost every benchmark we ran.  That certainly address the questions of raw performance and value.

what\'s so funny?  I would hope that after 2 years of getting their ass kicked Intel would finally best AMD.

Now when AMD goes 65nm we\'ll see how close they can catch up before the next generation part.

You better post when you get your conroe THX... i\'ve been eyeing the E6600 for $315.  Pretty much what I paid for my Opteron 165.  Only thing keeping me from switching over to the dark side is my memory and motherboard would have to be changed.  

As I mainly do video editing and graphics work rather than game this new Intel chip has piqued my interest quite a bit.

I won\'t snatch one until Asus or DFI make a decent mobo with a heatpipe for cooling instead of a fan.  There\'s nothing worse than hearing a computer when doing something simple like browsing the internet.

I\'m anxious though.  Right now I\'m playing GRAW at 1024x768 on my 19" 2ms LCD monitor with the textures at medium.  So in other words, new releases look like piss. ;P
