Author Topic: Help on re-attaching ribbon to ps2... (Read 2860 times)

I posted it on the sticky notes and I will post it here too...

Just today I try opening up the PS2 and did what the Linked said to do. On my third tries turning the white gear, I turned it 4 clicks for the first 3 times because none of discs would read as I tested them three times. When I turned it 4 clicks clockwise for the 4th time, I accidently knocked off the case of the PS2 and it yanked off the ribbon connecting the power and open/close buttons to the chasis...

The ribbon isn\'t broken or ripped apart at all. It looks like it got unattached from the chasis or whatever that is call. How do I hook the ribbon back to the chasis and where do I hook it back to? Any helps would do.

Look between the two buttons for a slot that the ribbon slips into. Kind of a bitch to get back in place, a bit like threading a needle. Needlenose pliers or tweasers should help to keep the ribbon pointed straight for the insertion.

Make sure you don\'t cross the wires or else the eject button is gonna be turning it on

I see.

I opened up the ps2 again just a moment ago and it seem like the connection is underneath the disc drive and a piece of metal...Inserting the ribbon back to the ps2 hardware is hard without taking out the disc drive and stuffs as it seems to me.

Oh I would like to make it more clear, the ribbon attach to the ps2 top case is intact, the one connecting to the hardware is not attach and I would like to re-insert it back to the hardware, not the chasis as i wasn\'t sure what the word chasis means, now I know. Sorry for the confusion.

I may post a picture later...

here are the pictures.

The first pic is what it look like on top. You can see the ribbon intact to the chasis, but disconnected to the ps2 hardware.

The second pic, its a close up of the ps2, and the arrow is pointing to where the ribbon should be connected underneath all that stuff. I lifted up that thing up but it doesn\'t open all the way, and i can see the slot for that thing to be connected but it hidden undearneath the disc tray and metal, and its kind of hard to connect it in...

Wow. Two things. 1. The inside of your PS2 looks nothing like my model PS2. 2. I dunno. Looks like you may be screwed. The ribbon on mine is completely different. I don\'t think it is a ribbon for me but a group of wires.

Wow, interesting. Did you took that pictures just now?

What year did you bought that ps2? I bought mine back in July 2001, and the model is SCPH-35001.

I wish I have that ps2 of yours, because I can at least lay down the top case of the ps2 without worrying it yanked off the wire, because mine were ribbon instead and the location to re-insert the ribbon was hard to reach...and I am not sure which side (front or back) to connect the ribbon either even if i can reach it...

I took the pics last time I took it apart which was probably a year ago. But my model is SCPH-30001, the launch model.

When I rested the top down, it actually pulled the wires off the tape.....but it was just tape and replaced it with masking tape, I believe

Hey Paul, where are the chips for your PS2? Mine are out in the open. Is yours under that silver thing?

It goes together just like you have it in your picture. And yes you can reach the slot now that you\'ve found it, exact same thing happened while I was cleaning mine.

yes, it seems like it as if sony make it harder for hackers to hack if the chips are not easily exposed. I just took another picture of the ps2 just now with the top case of the disc tray open, and the disc tray stick out.

hmm, it seem a bit far back in, which makes it harder to reach. But i will give it a try, but do you know which side i should slip it in, the side with the text face on top or the side with no text face on top?

I just try your method of using the tweasers and it doesn\'t work well. I asked my mom for help and she help me putting it in too, and we thought it was in, but it turns out it doesn\'t go all the way in or something. I tried it myself too as she hold the ps2 gap firmly open and I tried to insert it in with the tweaser but it keep bending the ribbon...

Its a lot harder than it is, maybe i should go to the repair shop and asked if they can connect it.
