why would you close it?  It has as much a reason to be here as any other thread.

you were wrong, get over it.  it\'s funny how none of you want to discuss the possible consequences, both good and bad, but automatically go on the defensive.  Not one of you actually read the article and comprehended it, otherwise you would have known it was not the same news.

In any case...here are some things to discuss:

It\'s not as if this would be entirely new for anyone.  In fact, anyone who has bought Live Arcade games has agreed to a similar agreement.  Digital distribution of full games is inevitable, and will likely have similar restricitions.

Most of all PC software has this agreement.

Publishers would LOVE this.  Retailers would hate it.

Why it should be closed:

1) mm refuted what you said
2) you aren\'t bringing in facts but rumors and speculation
3) you are bringing in rumors that were months old AND refuted by Sony themselves
4) you are bringing in the old rumors despite being refuted by Sony and acting as if they are fact
5) I think I\'m losing my intelligence by reading your posts
6) this topic brings nothing worthwile to the board and is just retarded fighting with no decent facts to back up your claim despite being refuted and proven wrong

1) mm refuted something I didn\'t state as news
2) like 99% of all other threads
3) sony has not refuted this
4) i never said they were fact. In FACT, I said I\'d wait until I heard it from Sony themselves.  It was brought in here to discuss possible ramifications.
5) I think you\'re really bad at reading
6) again, it hasn\'t been refuted or proven wrong.

Read this very carefully.  This is NOT related to the old news about the blu-ray discs themselves having some sort tech on them so they would only play on one machine.  No, this news is about Sony instructing retailers not to have used PS3 game sections.  If you had read the article you\'d know this.

It is true that license agreements on business software always forbid resale, but this would be a big departure to permit the same licensing on mass market consumer software like games.  I suspect this will open Sony to a class action lawsuit from retailers or consumers.

Not to mention that Microsoft gets away with it because they develop and publish Office and Windows themselves so its completely theirs. Games are developed and published by third parties and not by Sony themselves. I don\'t see this flying.

Riku, I won\'t believe that link until I see an actual full written statement by Sony. That was a short article and didn\'t even give that many specifics about it. Its pure speculation at this point.

To defend Riku a bit, he did clearly state it was speculation, nobody is saying otherwise.

As for the possibility, I don\'t see it happening and if it did it would ruffle far too many feathers for sony\'s liking.

wow, thanks.

Imagine if the public didn\'t mind.  If anyone is in a position to do it, it\'s Sony.  Publishers would have more reason than ever to put as many games on Playstation 3 as possible.  There would be pressure on Nintendo and Microsoft to follow suit.

I can\'t help but wonder how many people buy used games only, or at least make it habit to check for the used game first.  I can tell you that most of the 40 or so games I have (PS2, GC, and Xbox) are used.  I usually wait a good year or so before I pick a game up, and won\'t pay more than $20.

class action lawsuit x a million

Consumers should have the right to make money back on physical media such as games, music, and DVDs.

If Sony was smart they\'d allow u to purchase & download games digitally.  You can\'t resell Direct-2-Drive PC games, or iTunes songs for that matter. :highfive:
