Their one trick is consistently making amazing games?

I\'ll take it!
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

valid reason

Too bad that a "one trick pony" would mean games that follow only one genre, which Nintendo does not do.

Move on.

Oh and like Jump said..

If "one trick pony" means make constant quality games, then yea, sign me up.

No one mentioned control. You\'re starting to rank up there with Clowd on this whole subject. No one mentioned control at all. You complained about the graphics, somehow the thread got derailed into a PSP > DS topic and Eik, Jump and I simply explained why the DS is rockin\' over the PSP. Constant, solid first party games.

Castlevania?
Brain Age?
 Electroplankton?

List goes on and on.

And even if it didn\'t, Nintendo has delivered more than enough solid high quality first party titles to make it the handheld to own.

Like Samurai said, you\'re just trollin\' now.

Just for fun..

I like the 7 figures those ds games seem to get a lot of.  Amazing what sites you go to give different results. Hence why i barely bother to use them for personal opinions..  I prefer psp over DS anyday, can do far more with it. Thats why i bought it. You could show me every DS game that gets 10 outta 10.. doesn\'t mean i\'ll want it, or should buy it.

So amazing that the majority of console owners and gamers in general remain completley un-interested.

The numbers don\'t lie. Nintendo fans love Nintendo games, consoles, and they are a loyal bunch, but a minority in the overall gaming community.

Most gamers are not sucking on the Nintendo teet, and most of us don\'t really see what makes Nintendo games so great for die-hard Nintendo fans.

For the last 10 + years I haven\'t been able to figure out why Nintendo still has console fans.... I honestly just do not see anything that really stands out over the competiton.

I still think nintendo should stop trying to make consoles and stick with hand helds and being a multi platorm game developer, but with their new low cost Wii they might have carved out a profitable niche in the console cellar.

Just like I see nothing special about the PSone or PS2. When I think of both consoles, I think of "lifeless" or "souless". The games just don\'t reach out and grab me, as there is only a few games each console that I could care about (PSONE - Castlevania:SOTN, RE2..PS2 Mark of Kri, Kolona 2). Same with Xbox. The only console that has really interested me in the last generation is the DC, one before that was the Saturn, more specfic, the Japanese Saturn. This generation it\'s the Wii.

Then again, I really don\'t understand your point. You say they should become a third party developer - why? The console industry is protifable for them. Why is it profitable? Because they have the most well known franchises. Why do the have the most well known franchises? Because they take their time with them and make top quality first and second party games. It\'s really that simple.. As for carving out a "niche", welcome to the last decade, Nintendo has had a nice niche for a decade now, it isn\'t as if they have been reporting losses over the years. Instead they continue to make money off each handheld, each franchise and yes, each console.

i agreed with everything you stated up until the part about nintendo not makin\' consoles,...i\'ll admit when i go and check out games for gamecube,..there isn\'t any games that interest me on that platform,...i\'m not a mario or zelda fan,..and those cart games to me are bulls**t,..but my son and his friends love it...and that is one of the aspects of nintendo that i know i can always count on...games for the younger set. they are already dominating the handheld mrkt for reasons mentioned earlier, and lastly i just have alot of respect for them..they really do take care of their franchises,..and even when any of their 1st party games aren\'t that strong..*mario sunshine*<----i\'ve played that, they produce high production values to their games....mario has come a long way and is still the mascot for nintendo, while both sonic & crash bandicoot have sold their souls and have gone multi-platform...

in the last days of the trash talking mascots i can still remember that classic commercial where crash bandicoot was out in front of nintendo headquarters callin\' out mario..:p...ultimately tho mario had the last laugh...so at the end of the day there still and always will be a place for nintendo in the console market,..while sony and microsoft continue to throw bombs and kill each-other tryin to be the all in one,..i think nintendo will continue to chugg along through the smoke of ms and sony and consistently continue to make quality games for their audience.
knowledge, wisdom & understanding..these are the basic fundamentals of life

if you can\'t amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh*t....

Nintendo\'s surprisingly unique strategy of maintaining a consistent profit margin is a good way for them to do just what you describe. Even if they don\'t reclaim huge amounts of marketshare, they continue to be profitable.

Worst case, they just have to keep from being obsolete. From going the way of N-Gage or, say, 3DO.

In my opinion, their current trend was bringing them that way, with millions dropping in sales per generation. But this new strategy with Wii and DS has them poised to pick up some of that lost marketshare and continue making money into the next generation of consoles, five to ten years from now.

And I think Nintendo realized this. They are set in their ways enough to know they don\'t want to aim towards the "mature" audience (i.e, GTA / Halo lovers), but they are also smart enough to know that they needed to do something different. Producing an affordable console is a great idea, espically in the mdist of Xbox 360 and PS3 price tags. Add in classic franchises and the Wii-Mote, it\'ll get attention from non-gamers and finally, with the virtual console, you get the old hardcore / diehard fans who can\'t wait to load up some classic games.

I just picked up a DS and I\'m lovin\' it so far. Can\'t wait until my Castlevania game arrives in the mail.

Oh and before someone says I\'m Nintendo biased, I\'m not. That\'d be Eik! My soul stil belongs to those good ole\' Sega consoles..
