Ubisoft on Wii 60fps
« on: June 01, 2006, 11:07:52 AM »
I\'m no graphics guy, but this is a good thing?

Frames per second never meant much to be except during slow down fits...

Quote
EN: We\'ve been hearing a lot of consistent talk about 60fps at 480p widescreen from other developers. Is this something we\'ll see a lot of on Wii?
XP: I believe so yes.

EN: Why is this target so easy to hit?
XP: The hardware is totally free of bottlenecks, nothing is slowing us down.

EN = fan site. XP = guy from Ubisoft.

If any next gen console has a problem cranking out 60fps @ 848x480p then they need to implement Intel\'s brand new MMX technology from 1992

It\'s actually more along the lines of Xbox graphics at 60 fps.

And at that low of a resolution, Xbox graphics are about the same as Xbox 360 (I was underwhelmed when I first fired up Xbox 360, on a lame tv.)

The graphics limitations vs. cost ceiling that the industry is smacking up against is exactly the cause for Nintendo\'s innovation this generation.

They have a profitable system with a hook and it inspires creativity. There\'s your ftw. ;]

The fact that we get gamecube quality graphics isnt like the best thing ever, Actually its bad but constant 60fps sure are great news. And its graphics are better than GCs

And I dont think mixing  the controller\'s "innovation" with graphics is wise

Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

But why should people care when they are buying Wii for a different experience than visual splendour?

and wii games are repeatedly knocked for subpar graphics?

If it is proven a gimmick and people dont buy it for the different experience anymore, then yes Nintendo will be in deep shit but thats an IF. A big one too.

Just wait and see. I ve seen a video at youtube of someone playing Warhawk using motion sensing with only one hand and it doesnt seem as tiring or as stupid as the demonstration at Sony\'s Pre-E3 conference. Seems easy and enjoyable.
So why not Wii?

It\'s easy to always see the negative side, mm. I could pick apart nearly everything if I wanted to, even things I like.

The fact of the matter is, constant 60fps is an admirable goal. I\'ll take a smooth 60fps over "normal mapping on every surface" any day. I\'d prefer both, but clearly the technology isn\'t there yet if you want high-complexity scenes.

Remember that many major Xbox/GCN games (90% of the "pretty" ones) were 30fps. Titles like KOTOR consistently dipped lower.

No you dont. The point is motion sensing can be very fun and the Wii controller was designed with that in mind
