I\'ve studied violent video games here at college and the effects on kids. Almost all studies point that people who are naturally violent are attracted to violent video games, not make them violent. But they did find too that it did desensitize to an extent.

is this supposed to be this guy\'s life crusade?...damn get a life....if games or if anything for that matter will influence you to the point to where you\'re going to badly hurt someone or even kill them?,...then you were fairly "touched" mentally in the first place...this cat needs to go sit down somewhere...

I heard on the radio today that his roomate said he listend to Shine by Collective Soul over and over and over. So I guess Marylin Manson is safe on this one.

Give me a word
Give me a sign
Show me where to look
Tell what will I find ( will I find )
Lay me on the ground
Fly me in the sky
Show me where to look
Tell me what will I find ( will I find )

Oh, heaven let your light shine down (x4)

Love is in the water
Love is in the air
Show me where to go
Tell me will love be there ( love be there )
Teach me how to speak
Teach me how to share
Teach me where to go
Tell me will love be there ( love be there )

Oh, heaven let your light shine down (x4)

Im going to let it shine (x2)
Heavens little light gonna shine on me
Yea yea heavens little light gonna shine on me
Its gonna shine, shine on me
Its gonna shine, come on in shine

sounds violent...

Looks like Collective Soul is to blame for this one. No, not the jackass who shot 33 people. It is music and video games to blame. That\'s what pisses me off about crisis\'s like this. Everyone blames everything BUT the shooter.

To be fair, that hasn\'t really been the case in this instance... yet. Even Dr. Phil who got slammed on the Internet was saying the kid had a mental illness.

I think we might be over the scapegoat thing. He was obviously clinically f\'ed up, probably had a deformity in his brain, and then he came into the possession of weapons.

And I think it\'s obvious he wanted to one-up past killings. God help us when this pattern continues among the deranged members of society.

The most I see on the news about the "why?" issues has been US gun control laws. Aside from Thompson, I haven\'t seen too many things televised about games or music yet.

Nope. Jack Thompson is just a douchebag looking for his moment in the sun.

I\'m sure the kid was a big gamer. But from what I noticed in college and high school, anti-social people have nothing else to do so they play games to pass time or chonically masturbate (kinda like some members on this board ;) ). But seriously, people blame video games for making our youth violent but studies show that violent people are attracted to violent video games, not the other way around. Plus it is in human nature to be attracted to violence. I mean seriously, how many of you play shooting games or go to war movies? I bet the vast majority. I admit, I love war games and war movies. Does that mean I\'m gonna shoot up my college? No. I understand a difference between reality and a fucking game.

There\'s a nice level-headed article on the MSNBC website:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18220228/

Quote
Jason Della Rocca agrees. "Everyone wants a simple solution for a massively complex problem. We want to get on with our lives."

As the leader of an organization that represents video game creators from all over the world, Della Rocca knows the routine all too well.

Someone opens fire on a school campus. Someone blames video games. His phone starts ringing. People start asking him questions like, "So how bad are these games anyway?"

Of course, he also knows that this is far from the first time in history that a young form of pop culture has been blamed for any number of society\'s ills. Rock and roll was the bad guy in the 1950s. Jazz was the bad guy in the 1930s. Movies, paintings, comic books, works of literature…they\'ve all been there.

Still, Della Rocca believes that people like Thompson are "essentially feeding off the fears of those who don\'t understand games."

For those who didn\'t grow up playing video games, the appeal of a game like "Counter-Strike" can be hard to comprehend. It can be difficult to understand that the game promotes communication and team work. It can be hard fathom how players who love to run around gunning down their virtual enemies do not have even the slightest desire to shoot a person in real life.

"It\'s the thing they don\'t understand," Della Rocca says. "It\'s a thing that\'s scary."
