since the ps3 couldn\'t play ps2 games to begin with, that shouldn\'t be much of a problem about ps2 memory cards. Also, I think there is a firmware update that allows you to save your psone and ps2 games on the ps3 harddrive or something like that.
the memory card reader for camera and the less 2 usb ports probably don\'t cost much, maybe around $10 total? it could be more, it could be less than that. But imagine, producing it in the million units, which could save sony muti-million dollars by omitting them when selling the 40 GBytes model for $400.
I think Sony is already losing money selling the ps3 $500 to $600 when it first came out, I wouldn\'t be surprise if Sony is still losing money selling the 40 GBytes $400, even if they omitted some features. But at least, they lose a bit less money by omitting some features though.
