40gb confirmed release nov.2 with another surprise..

Jack Tretton, President of Sony Computer Entertainment America has now confirmed that the new 40GB PlayStation 3 will make it\'s way to the U.S., releasing on November 2 for a retail price of USD 400.

If that wasn\'t good enough, Tretton also confirmed that the 80GB version will be getting a hundred price cut, dropping it from USD 600 – 500.

Guess that mean do not buy a PS3 until Nov. 2nd I wish they would removed motorstorm from the 80gb package adn reduce the price by another 50$

how much can the memory card readers and USB ports cost? also, how will you be able to use old memory cards on the PS3?

since the ps3 couldn\'t play ps2 games to begin with, that shouldn\'t be much of a problem about ps2 memory cards.  Also, I think there is a firmware update that allows  you to save your psone and ps2 games on the ps3 harddrive or something like that.

the memory card reader for camera and the less 2 usb ports probably don\'t cost much, maybe around $10 total?  it could be more, it could be less than that.  But imagine, producing it in the million units, which could save sony muti-million dollars by omitting them when selling the 40 GBytes model for $400.

I think Sony is already losing money selling the ps3 $500 to $600 when it first came out, I wouldn\'t be surprise if Sony is still losing money selling the 40 GBytes $400, even if they omitted some features.  But at least, they lose a bit less money by omitting some features though.

Probably going to be replaced with the 80GB version

Maybe Clips didn\'t realize the 80 GBytes is already available since July.  I think what Clips was really trying to say was waiting for the 80 Gbytes to have a price drop from $600 to $500.

didn\'t realize the 80 GBytes was already on sale at $500, and not to mention is also included a videogame MotorStorm.  So, Clips, gives us your thought when you purchase one.

the 40gb will be bundled with Spidy3 Blu-Ray.. pretty cool.

This is a significant price drop for Canada.

80gb from 659$  to 499$
60gb from 499$ to 449$ (not many left)
40gb at 399$
