another PS3 / HDTV question..

Well.. I\'ll finally buy my PS3 this week-end. My PS2 just died (the tray do not open anymore). It was an original PS2, bought after a 8 hours line-up on day one :)

I\'ll also buy a new TV to replace my old 27\'\' CTR. Since I had no budget I was simply eying every week fliers and didn\'t keep up with all differences there are with LCD technologies.  I am having trouble figuring out why a 46\'\' from Sony can range from 1800$ to
3000$. Same goes with Sharp\'s and other manufacturer.

Anyway. I\'ll mainly play PS3 games and watch BR movies. We don\'t watch much regular TV on a regular basis, but we are anxious to watch hockey finals in HD :) Target price (in Canadian$ ) is under 2200. Looking for a 42\'\' or 46\'\'. No Samsung. Here are the T.V I found..

make sure that if you buy an LCD, that the blacks don\'t ghost really easily. I\'m not sure if ghosting is the right word, but a bunch of LCD\'s have this thing where if something white is on the screen, then it switches to a black screen, a ghosting image of whatever was on the white screen stays there.

Personally, i dont have a room with no windows, and i hate the glare that i see on plasmas..thats the thing that kept me from buying it

ended up getting a samsung 40" LCD and i like it a lot..it does have that ghosting thing which annoys me sometimes, but other than that it\'s beautiful.

XBR version is about 600$ more. I\'ll check it out.

All these prices are American and HDTV here are usually 15-20% higher. So if the quality of XBR is that much superior, i\'ll ditch the 46" for a 40"

All of those seem small, so I really can\'t say.

Just make sure what ever kind of LCD you get, you avoid ghosting.

If you\'re not dead set on LCD - have you considered DLP? More specific, LED DLP. I just purchased a 61 inch Samsung LED DLP and I have zero complaints. You could pick one of those up for around $1800.

If you\'re getting a 42" I\'d consider not getting a 1080p set, not completely worth it.  Also, I\'m not that impressed with that specific Panasonic set you\'re looking at.  I work for Panasonic and that set has an anti-glare coating that doesn\'t allow the plasma to show off its quality.  The PZ700U and the new PZ80U models are much better.

that\'s quite expensive and i thought 120 Hz is overrated for an LCD type display.  But if you are happy and money is no concern.  Then, congrats.

Ahhh, you could have got a 50" 1080P Panasonic for cheaper.  If you\'re happy you\'re happy I guess
