  What I say:

I’ll be the first to admit that this is not my genre. But looking at the quality that comes out of the screens, it seems as though this may be a very successful project. Just wish they’d use ole Heath’s Batman instead the Jack Nickaulson’s version. Still, any MMO that allows you to customise a superhero and fight with or against Batman sounds kinda cool. Keep an eye on it if its your thang.

Hmmm...

- Flower looks interesting. Maybe a bit ghey, but if it\'s not more than 25 bucks, perhaps worth it.

- Heavy Rain : I really want to try that game. Somehow I have a feeling that game\'ll deliver suspense the way Silent Hill 2 did.

- Ico 3 of course !

- Killzone 2 : seems intense, yet tactical at a basic level ; which would fit me well, since i don\'t like frantic shooters. Source engine gets me nausea

- Uncharted 2 : If only for graphics and the adventure story/atmosphere.

On the flipside : missing from that list ;

- Splinter Cell Conviction : Even though the concept turned me off initially, I\'m looking forward to this one. MGS4 didn\'t deliver enough stealth gameplay for me (only act 1,2 and 4).

- Velvet Assassin : taking over SC\'s torch of Light & Shadow gameplay ? Where are PS3\'s stealth games !?

- Where\'s a new Formula 1 game !?

A diss : God of War 3 looks like crap imo. I don\'t get what the fanboys are raving about.

Well,..i don\'t think it neccessarily looks like crap, but it doesn\'t look much better than it\'s ps2 version....and not to knock the ps2 version, because i think both god of war 1 & 2 pushed the machine to it\'s limit..to this day both games look amazing...now for the ps3 this god of war is a bit of a dissappointment....it doesn\'t really look like a next gen game at all.

Maybe the game will look better later on, but i\'m assuming that this firm is using the same engine from previous games, so it really shouldn\'t be that hard to enhance the visuals....hopefully the game will develop into a true next gen-game graphically in the coming months.

But that\'s exactly the issue : they (Santa Monica studio) stated it\'s using a brand new PS3 optimized engine to run it all in 1080P @ 60 fps. And then there was Jaffe hyping the visuals of the mysteriously unseen GoW 3 footage....

1080p @ 60fps means 4 times the performance of 720p @ 30fps...
Or Twice the pixel fillrate and twice the framerates of 720p @ 30fps...

Running games at that amount probably means reduce texture, lighting sources, and maybe polygons count than 720p/30fps but you do get very smooth motion and picture detail.  Knotter8, you are an expert in these kind of stuffs.  what\'s your thought?

I think most 2-D games should be in 1080p/60fps.  But 3-D requires a lot of graphical performances, so most should runs at 720p/30fps for better lighting, and texture.  But of course, for games that require precision like fighting games, maybe 720p/60fps is the better choice.

Well, as you can see, the game still features quite a lot of enemies onscreen with medium detail : so the polycount is certainly up there.

Basically, they went for max fluidity. A design decision with pros & cons. Seeing how recent top games fair well at a locked 30 fps @ 720P, you might argue that decision though.

The polycount is there, the fluid animation is there and so are the lighting FX, shader FX (incl. normal mappings) and postfilters ; However, the latter 3 seem rather limited, basically at low fidelity.

Thus, Jaffe\'s hyperbole about it "looking like a painting come to life" is, absurd....until proven otherwise. A true showcase for the PS3 ? No ffing way !

you know what.  I just realized now that FX is short for effects.  LOL.  I been wondering what FX means for all these years since mid 90s.

I am curious, just to be clearer, does games running at 720p can draw more polygon counts than 1080p?  Also, does frame rates effect polygon counts too?  Say does 720p @ 30fps draws more polygon counts than 720p @ 60fps?

I\'m not really an expert, but it does involve the GPU fillrate & frame buffer.

Personally, I would have suggested 720P for this game ; and trying to achieve a locked 60 fps at that resolution, without V-lock ; I can tolerate some screentearing in favour of overall motion fluidity.

The nighttime setting can also be an indication that they can only use a limited amount of realtime lightsources. Fierce balls-of-fire (lol) and bolts of lightning, as seen in the trailer, don\'t equate great/complex lighting.

Oh, I thought you are a pro in this because I remember years ago you made some 3-D animation.

Yeah, I agree about the trailer using the nighttime setting to avoid using much of light sources.  Didn\'t thought about that.  I wouldn\'t mind if 3-D games like that run in 720p @30fp as long as it\'s solid in that framerate.
