I was really surprised that the guy used a Canon G10 to shoot these images. Maybe he was limited to using a small light camera with the automated rig.
I know the G10 has a 14.7 mp sensor, which is not bad... but imagine how much better this would have looked if he had used an SLR like the 1D with it\'s 21.1 mp full sized sensor, and a higher quality L-series lens.
I would prefer SLR over point and shoot for the much bigger image sensor that SLR has over p&s. Give me bigger image sensor any day over the excessively high megapixel counts.
Its true G10 is a p&s, i guess they were trying to cut cost as they are spending on 220 cameras.
But the 1D is way too expensive. I just check the price for curiosity and the body for 1D is $8,000. Just for the body only. the lens might cost another grand. making it cost as much as $9,000 or more. While the G10 only cost $450. If there were 220 1D cameras, that would cost nearly $2,000,000 while 220 G10 would only cost about $100,000 or less when on sale.
So, the 1D is overkill, if they want SLR, the Canon EOS 450D is a decent value of only $800 for the body or $900 with the lens kit included. Although only 12.2 megapixels, but it has a bigger image sensor than G10.
the G10 has a diagonal size of .59 inch sensor while the 450D has a diagonal size of a little over 1 inch, and the full frame of 1D has a diagonal size of 1.75"...
