I hear 16 and it makes my ears pucker up.  I can\'t hear anything above, but my ears still pucker up.  It\'s very weird.

It also I would guess matter on your speakers as well.

I guess you need speakers that can produce frequency up to 20 kHz and higher in order to higher those very high frequency.

Most small speakers for computer can\'t produce sound quality higher than 15 kHz.  Higher than 15 kHz requires turning up the volume level in the volume control program to hear those frequencies.  Turning the main volume control all the way up will causes a lot of noises and distortions, but it does crank up the volume of the 16+ kHz where you can actually hear it.

My computer speakers can only produce sound quality up to 16 kHz in normal volume control.  17 kHz and higher, I couldn\'t hear it.  At first, I thought my ears couldn\'t hear it, but then I crank up the volume control and then I can hear 17 kHz to 19 kHz.  I crank up the volume more as I listen to the increased frequencies.  I crank up the volume all the way for both Main and Wave to hear the 19 kHz.

in 20 kHz, I couldn\'t hear with all the volumes up max.  Actually, listening to it now.  I can hear it, but it\'s very soft and the noises and the distortions are so high that it\'s barely noticeable.

In 21 kHz and 22 kHz tests, I couldn\'t hear it.  But I think part of it has to do with the speakers couldn\'t produce those sound loud enough without severe distortions and noises.

I thought the limit of human hearing was supposed to be 20 kHz.  That\'s why the target for the ultimate speaker frequency response is supposed to be 20 hz - 20 kHz.  If you can hear above 20 kHz, maybe you have super powers.

Oh yeah, I tried my cheap but decent sound quality headphones to see if I can those those high frequencies.  It seems like my headphones can only produce sound up to 15 kHz, and at 16 kHz, I need to crank up the volume control.  17 kHz and higher, my headphones couldn\'t produce those frequencies as I couldn\'t hear anything.

wait....actually, my speakers can produce those high frequencies up to 22 kHz when listen in Windows Media Player instead of Quicktime player that it opens automatically when clicking on the link...maybe windows media player process those sound more accurately and better than quicktime?

in windows media player, I can hear those very high frequencies in normal settings without turning up the volume control at all.  It\'s just that the sound gets softer as the frequency gets higher, but I still could hear it with very little distortions and noises.  In 22 kHz, its detectable, but very soft and the distortions and noises are moderate instead of severe.  So that means my little speakers can produce sound up to 22 kHz in normal optimal volume but weaker in the very high frequencies.

Oh yeah, one more thing.  I think to hear the 22 kHz better is to record and save the sound in 48 kHz instead of 44 kHz.  The mp3 version was saved in 44 kHz instead of 48 kHz...not sure if mp3 supports 48 kHz though...when record in digital, the frequency needs to at least double to hear the highest frequency...something about reducing errors and other technical stuffs that I am not sure of.

Coredweller is right that most people can only hear up to 20 kHz and that\'s what I thought too from what I read years ago.  But to my surprise, i guess we can hear higher than 20 kHz, as high as 22 kHz according to the test. Especially young adults and younger.

Can’t hear shit above 15khz..  doesn\'t surprise me sense I’m partially deaf anyway. It could be my cheap 20 buck headphones don\'t reproduce that range. If i was to crank up the volume it\'ll just create distortions. The sound is there i can measure it on my cro.

I started at 22 but going back and listening to all the different sounds 20 is the last one I clearly hear and 21 almost more sounds like static from the speakers than anything else.

^ quicktime

I can\'t hear anything above 15kHz on my ipod headphones.

About not hearing anything over 20kHz, that\'s why they set the limit @ 20 back in the 80\'s when they were making CDs.  Since then scientists have found that the human brain responds to frequencies above 20kHz, which is why audio enthusiasts prefer SACD or DVD-Audio.  Also why the audio specs for blu-ray call for frequencies much higher than 20kHz.

You don\'t exactly hear the frequencies but you feel them.
